Not only are students vulnerable to anxiety and depression by the time they graduate, but also hopelessness as well (Leibow, 2010). I noticed that by spending time with positive people, for example, it has provided me with the mental support that is needed to be successful in college.

"You must first embrace your hopes and dreams and have a positive attitude about yourself before you can change the attitudes and behaviors of others. " The significance of these words from Linda G. Alvarado echo as a constant lesson I’ve learned throughout my life. For high school, I attend a virtual public school, a program requiring a high level of maturity to maintain the independent course load. With no teachers or classmates around, I created a competitive environment by becoming my own competitor.

“ An Hour with Abuelo” by Judith Ortiz Cofer illustrates the theme that the world does not revolve around you. In the beginning of the story Arturo was forced to visit Abuelo and was trying to get out of the place as soon as possible. For example the text states that “ I hate the place, the old people’s home, especially the way it smells like industrial-strength ammonia and other stuff I won’t mention. ”(Ortiz Cofer 59). At the later stages of the story Abuelo politely excuses Arturo because of the pink runner lady which completely changed the roles in the story.
Heitor Villa-Lobos: An Overview of His Guitar Music Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) was one of the most influential and acclaimed Latin American composers of the twentieth-century. As an avid nationalist, he not only elevated the music of his home country, Brazil, to new heights, but he also took advantage of his unique heritage and personal experiences to create his own sound and to shape his identity as a composer. Villa-Lobos original, experimental, and nationalistic approach to composition were important marks of his style and we see the influences of Brazilian folk music throughout all of his works. However, Villa-Lobos’s accomplishments as a composer are not limited to the music of Brazil.

This course has given me enough information to help me feel confident that I will be successful in the rest of my highschool experience and my future college experience. This course has given me skills that will stay with me for the rest of my life. Learning to study properly, avoid procrastination, and take notes correctly has been something that has already helped me tremendously. It has helped me feel less stressed on a day-to-day basis as well as improving my school work quality.
“Four AP classes is a lot,” my parents warned, reading the list of courses I would take in the fall. “Are you sure you can manage that?" I felt fearless. “Of course,” I assured them. “I can handle it!”

America. Aldo points to the title song from his own solo effort, Miseria Humana (2008): "This human misery, this is how it is for Cubans today; our need for money, our need to help each other. " In 2009, the rap duo Los Aldeanos, although banned from performing, their music was consumed more than ever and with the mp3 technology, the whole banning tactic was becoming absurd. In the case of Los Aldeanos, as Baker explains in his article, it might be possible that the duo has gained permission to travel abroad by taking an agreement to soften their lyrics and the critics. On the other hand, they might be simply exploring new artistic ways, because they have openly criticized the Cuban state already so many times, bringing them national and international

The Challenging Exploration of my Strengths and Weaknesses in a Classroom Experience The academics at Brandeis University can be challenging and filled with workload, yet that is what converts them in rather compelling, fulfilling, and interesting courses. I think I expect every class I take, during these four undergraduate years, to fulfill me in all these distinct aspects. Taking this class has had a profound impact on me. I have learned how to properly study for a college class. Also, I learned how to effectively communicate and reach out to my professor. This was my first college course which gave me a learning experience about psychology and myself as a student. I have learned how to manage my time, study in ways that are better for me, focus on the task in front of me, and reaching out and taking opportunities.
