Selena Quintanilla was a very successful “Tex-Mex” singer, who, from the beginning of her life to the end of it, had an extraordinary life. After one time of singing to her father, a band was created and she was put into the singing world. Since that day, many journeys occurred. She has performed in many places like Mexico and Texas. She even got married and won a Grammy. Though, after a tragic murder ending her life, Selena will always be remembered as the first successful female Tejano singer.

She did not always stick to her Mexican culture and Mexican music though. This is the story and background of Selena Quintanilla-Perez.
Selena Quintanilla-Perez you may or may not heard about her. If you have you know she was known as the queen of Tejano music or known by the media the Tejano Madonna. Even though her life was cut short she continues to live in the hearts of Latino and American community. Selena is a pop icon that has influence me and others because she broke a lot of barriers and had a major impact on the Latino community.
Today, when one turns on the radio, Pandora, or any type music streaming company, we will most likely hear artists singing songs that do not sound like their ‘usual sound.’ Today they are known as crossover artists, and some of the most widely know to this day are Taylor Swift from country to pop, Enrique Iglesias and Gloria Estefan both coming from Latin fan bases to the American pop culture.
Selena the “Queen of Tejano” Selena Quintanilla Perez was the voice for Tejano music or Tex-Mex music (Texan-Mexican music). This type of music composed of various forms of folk and popular music was given its name from its origin in Central and Southern Texas as well as the Mexican-American population. “The musical traditions of the Tejanos of South Texas and Nortenos of Northern Mexico have been influenced not only by the mother country, Mexico, but also by their Anglo-American, African-American and immigrant neighbors like the Czechs, Bohemians, and Moravians as well as the Germans and Italians.” The development of Tejano music came from repertoires the popular folk dances of the region such as polkas, waltzes, redoves, and rancheras

It all started when her dad made a band for her brothers and her sisters called Selena Y Los Dinos, they started playing live at her father's restaurant .She often referred to as the queen of Tejano because she won so many awards for it. Her life was filled with friends, family, and fans who supported her, through her rough times and her good times.Unfortunately on March 31, 1995 it all came to an end.
