Selena Quintanilla Achievements

Selena Quintanilla-Perez you may or may not heard about her. If you have you know she was known as the queen of Tejano music or known by the media the Tejano Madonna. Even though her life was cut short she continues to live in the hearts of Latino and American community. Selena is a pop icon that has influence me and others because she broke a lot of barriers and had a major impact on the Latino community. At, only twenty-three Selena overcame many barriers. Selena began singing at ten years old being the lead singer of her family band. In, the 1980s she began recording professionally and was often judged about the music genre she chooses to sing which was Tejano music. At, the time this genre was dominated by male artists, because of this she was refused

But, that all changed when she started to become popular among Tejano music fans. Leading her to win “best female vocalist of the year” and “performer of the year” at the Tejano Music Awards. In the 90s her album named “Ven Conmigo” was the first Tejano album to reached gold selling over five hundred thousand copies. In, 1993 when went on to win a Grammy for “best Mexican American album”. The following year she released another album which was called “Amor Prohibido” that also went gold. With these achievements, this made Selena the first women to achieve huge success in Tejano and the first Tejano artist to win a Grammy award and have albums go gold. After achieving so much success in Tejano music Selena wanted to crossover to American music. She started recording the album “Dreaming of you” but sadly she did live to see her album success. Selena was murder on March 31, 1995. Even though Selena died the album “Dreaming of you” was released. The songs on the album “I
