In Tim O’Brien’s “Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong,” Mary Anne Bell’s evolution into adulthood is driven by her acquisition of the knowledge that she is a predator. From the beginning, she is absorbed by the carnage and danger of war, even “fascinated by it. Not the gore so much, but the adrenaline buzz that went with the job” (O’Brien 7). Mary Anne accepts, and even welcomes, her predator lifestyle, and presents herself as “someone perfectly at peace with herself” (O’Brien 17). Mary Anne may crave the kill because it gives her a goal and an objective, while life as Mark Fossie’s wife would not provide such a purpose.

Frank Ocean once said, “When you 're happy, you enjoy the music. But when you 're sad, you understand the lyrics.” Why does one have to be sad to “understand the lyrics”? Evaluating a song and being given the ability to relate enhances one’s respect for the composer. For example, when one first listens to “Danny’s Song” by Kenny Loggins, they probably believe the song is about love, however, once a person analyzes the lyrics the realize that the song is actually a story of a couple who are having a baby boy.
I am going to list three places from the song and support them with evidence. “Men walking’ ‘long the railroad tracks, Goin’ someplace there’s no goin’ back”(Springsteen line 1-2) These two lines give the readers an understanding of the intense atmosphere in the Great Depression, and they also described the men despairly working for the government along the railroad. Even though people have the jobs provided by government, they can hardly afford their families. Neil Diamond 's documentary “Reel Injun” depicts the historical portrayal of the treatment of the First Nations in America. It brings awareness to the truth behind not only First Nations, but other stereotyped groups. For example, that many people often mistake all members of the Muslim community as Extremists who commit inhumane acts of terrorism. Small percentages of the population who fit the stereotyped criteria may often unintentionally represent their background negatively and as a whole. These are then misinterpreted by society ultimately having a biased view on groups of people.
Soul on Ice by Eldridge Cleaver is a collection of writings and correspondence with his attorney Beverly Axelrod from his time in the Folsom State Prison in California in 1965. Eldridge Cleaver was convicted of drug crimes and then convicted again later after he committed a series of rapes against black and white women. Within Soul on Ice, Eldridge Cleaver details his pursuit of self-discovery and the pursuit of knowledge and new ideologies within the prison system. In addition, Cleaver explores the social system and race relations of black and white people during the Civil Rights Movement. Cleaver renounces his actions as rapist and converts to a Malcom X follower and later a Marxist revolutionary.

It was recorded and released in January 1956 by RCA Studios. Elvis was only 21 and Heartbreak Hotel was his first song with the new record label RCA in Nashville, Tennessee. He recorded the song with his band the Blue moon boys. It was his first million-seller and the bestselling single of 1956.
As I sit in class, trying my hardest to pay attention to jumble of scientific words my chemistry professor is lecturing us about, my mind drifts away to a song. The song, today, being Cold, Cold Man by St. Motel and all I can focus on is the movie clip that is playing out in my head. I image the song starting out with the image of a car driving out of a Midwest city, the frame zooming out when you see the car making its journey across the country. The frame then zooms in on the car as the background fades into a city when vocals come in. When the song gets to the refrain, I see the frame zooming in on the driver of the car as it gets deeper into the heart of the city.
Ever wonder why a villain behave like a villain? Well, according to the speaker in the poem “Nebraska,” written by Bruce Springsteen, “there’s just a meanness in this world” (24). I found this poem truly fascinating because I’m still figuring out who “her” is, mentioned in this poem as I’m typing. “Nebraska” is a dramatic monologue, which is a subgenre of poem that – by residing somewhere in between lyric and dramatic poetry – can teach us more about both, according to the Introduction to Literature textbook. Everyone can read poems, but we sometimes analyze it differently.

Music’s impact can be seen in every facet of the world today and it is a way to express feelings, tell a story, or prove a point. It can bring people together and can transcend communities, cultures, and ideologies. Although many do not realize it, music has had a profound impact on all human lives, and the lives of all others that have since died. Sam Cooke’s “A Change is Gonna Come’ is a song that defined a generation while bringing the oppression and injustice that African Americans experienced, on a daily basis, to the forefront of society.

In 1964 world famous Motown singer Sam Cooke released a “A change is going to come.” This song included rhythmic melodies and soulful sounding lyrics, but this song contained and obviously deeper undertone of race relations in America. It sounds as a description of Cooke’s life up until this time and how he believes with the tide of civil rights activist a change was evidently going to eventually come. In this song Cooke chooses his lyrics in an ambiguous way to leave it to interpretation. These questions of the lyrical choice center on the American identity and who Cooke was referring to.
