Sofa In the corner of my memory lies a dilapidated, black sofa— my only loyal friend who had looked past my ethnicity and continuously supported me. Although I had always yearned to create a multitude of unbreakable friendships, fate was not on my side. Throughout my childhood, I have been unable to deepen the bond with my peers during after school hours due to my low socioeconomic status. Both of my parents had to work twelve hours a day and six days a week, cleaning and decorating nails in their business. When I was not in school, I was sitting on the sofa in the break room and careful to avoid creating a disturbance.

It was a rather bizarre day for the Mystery Shack. Mabel and Stan had run to the grocery store early in the morning. Dipper usually tagged along, but had been up all night reading from his large collection of Two-Minute Mysteries tomes and was not going to get up, even if the Shack caught on fire. Seeing other bodies in her bed, she would grab her flashlight and shine it right into their faces to identify her bedmates. Of course they woke up; but what could you say to a ninety-one year old? Winnie confessed she frequently worried that Dammo would die during the night and she would be responsible for reporting Dammo’s demise to the daughters in the morning.
When we first walked in, you could hear my mother shriek after she spotted a cockroach near the fireplace. I couldn’t sleep from the constant feeling that bugs were crawling on me. About halfway into the trip, my family and I were eating dinner at California Dreaming when we received a phone call from our neighbor informing us of a large storm that was present back home. “It sounds like someone is ripping off my garage door,” our neighbor, Sharee Wagoner, explained. We continued eating without worry until Sharee called us a second time telling us that her next door neighbor’s trampoline was in her pool.
The bells echo in my head as I struggle to wake up. I see my brothers Henry, and Harrison are slowly waking up straw attached to their clothes from their bed which they shared.
