Head Start programs advocate for the education of children. They stress their school readiness program by claiming it enhances children 's social and cognitive development, through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social and other services. Head Start also advocates for the idea of family support. This program supports this idea by providing services for eligible adults and families including health and nutrition programs, mental health programs, parenting programs, relationship programs, and financial education programs. Bush signed into law the "Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act of 2007," a bill to reauthorize Head Start. This law was to improve the program quality, expand access, and provide comprehensive developmental services, including health, nutritional, educational, social and other services, to economically disadvantaged preschool children and their families. It addresses several longstanding Administration priorities, such as increased competition among Head Start providers, improved coordination of early childhood delivery systems, and stronger educational performance standards.
