Historical events have influenced the popularity of sports in the United States. Historically sports became an accomplishment to the American social life. By the end of the 18th century, the newly created United States of America was home for people of different cultural backgrounds and traditions, including sporting traditions as well. Some of them like "the clandestine Angolo" remained limited to its community, whereas others like horse racing spread over cultural boundaries and became very popular (Grundy & Rader 14).
