With these advantages come opposing views especially from parents and what they prefer for their child. Some might argue that child development centers don’t just push children to work on their reading skills but rather focus on their kid moving towards the next level of education. However, not only do developmental centers push reading proficiency, but also focus on providing age-appropriate activities that encourage curiosity and use of the five senses (Classroom Goals-Child and Family Center). According to Kelly Crane, a child policy specialist for the National Conference of State Legislatures, about $25 billion are spent on the foster care system by all levels of the government in 2006, and a big portion of these funds are used to supply foster parents with money in return for fostering children (Crane 2011). Due to the fact that the government gives money to those willing to participate in foster care, many couples that would normally ignore the foster care system are now more than willing to take children into their homes, and thus, there is a greater amount of available parents. This allows more children to find a home, which is entirely a result of the government

NAEYC argued for salaries and benefits to be linked to qualifications and responsibilities. In 1999, Child and Youth Care forum published a series of articles in a symposium on the professionalization of the early childhood care through developing a positive relationship between professional development and the status and salaries of the childcare staff. The need for improved child outcomes, quality programs, and teacher qualifications has continued to frame the discussion around professional status. The improved wages for childcare staff was still missing from major initiatives. Unless, childcare staff wages were included in all the initatives, the efforts to improve program quality and child outcomes would be very
Basic cognitive and social skills will both be improved through higher quality care. When a child is able to perform well in school at an early age, it increases their chances of staying successful throughout their lives as a student. Researchers at the Institute for Research on Poverty concluded, “Children who attend higher-quality child care settings display better cognitive, language, and social competencies on standardized tests.” The Cost, Quality, and Outcomes in Child Care Centers Study, which began in 1993, was a study over time of children in four states, it was designed to test if child care affects a child’s readiness for school. The study population was limited to children in families that had elected center-based care and did not include personal child care facilities that people provide from their own homes.

This industry is in a monopolistic competition. Most child care centers compete against other child care centers, though they must also compete against nannies and those who conduct their business at home (“Marketing Your Daycare” 2014). Each type of child care has their positives and negatives, which will either attract or repel potential customers. On one hand, child care centers are certified institutions that have an established clientele. Though the business may be well revered, it could still repel a customer due to the fact that the family may not know the owner of the center or its employees.
Child development is an area of significant interest to professionals who deal with children on a daily basis. It is through child development theorists and their theories that we begin to form an understanding of how children develop emotionally and socially to become fully grown adults in society with a moral and emotional compass/. Teachers need to study child development in order to provide developmentally appropriate educational experiences for children. Health professionals also need to understand this area to support children in their physical, social, emotional and cognitive journey to becoming functioning adults in society. M. (2011). It should also be noted that many, Head Start preschool teachers are math anxious and their level of math anxiety prevents them from teaching mathematics to preschool aged children, including reasoning and cognitive thinking skills, as much as they should. It is critical for children to develop these reasoning and cognitive skills in order to be successful in future learning. In it’s current state of U. S. childcare centers, “the quality of emotional support in preschool classrooms appears relatively strong when compared to the quality of instructional support” Hirokazu, Y. (2016). Although emotional support is a very important factor in child development it certainly isn’t a basis to build a case for sending children to preschool away from their families and emotional centers.
Throughout this course of four weeks, my perspective of child development has changed drastically in this short amount of time. This was my first class that was related to child development and there was a lot of material that was important to learn and understand. I came to this class with not much knowledge, but I am definitely leaving this class with an abundance of information that I will be able to use in my career or just in general. Discontinuous Within the process of child development, my view is based upon that is children are constantly growing through stages which is a discontinuous process.
