The idea of education was not something my family pushed on me, in fact my mother never once mentioned college to me as a child. I had many friends who all went off to college during the years following high school, yet for some reason I never pictured that for myself. Back in high school I never would have dreamed that one day I would be sitting here writing a paper about my academic experiences, or what lead me to San Francisco State and my future goals. Nevertheless, here I am and it has been a very long journey to get me where I am today and I have many people along the way that guided me in my journey, Growing up in Arkansas I truly loved school and looked forward to going every day, however at the age of 8 my mother …show more content…
Even with all the social anxiety I have and the fear being in a classroom with other students for the first time since 1999, however I was able to succeed and pass all my classes that first quarter back. During that first quarter, I took an Introduction to Psychology course and realized that my major in accounting was not my passion after all. Something about understanding the mind and society really intrigued me and after that I started taking as many psychology and sociology classes that I could take. During that first year in school I really proved to myself that I was capable of doing well in school, in fact just recently while looking at my transcripts I realized that I made the dean’s list multiple times during those first couple of years. That is an accomplishment for someone like me; who never really did well in school, yet here I was graduating with a AA in liberal studies with an emphasis on social and behavioral …show more content…
Teaching was not something I originally thought of when I started school, but when I got accepted here I realized that I could be the Mrs. DeWeese to another child and be able to influence them the same way that I was. Teaching and helping middle school age children is my dream and I feel that I have the patience and passion to be able to teach them. With all the different types of bullying these days, especially cyber-bullying and peer-pressure I hope that one day I am able to become a school counselor; so that I can help more students who struggle with the pressures of middle
My Academics at Oberlin: I am attracted to Oberlin as it has a strong Mathematical Economics Concentration program. At Oberlin, I am considering to explore the intersections of Economics and Mathematics. That said, the classes I am going to take will not be limited to only these areas. In addition to economics and programming, I would like to explore other subjects as well. I don’t want to lose sight of all the other things that will make me a well-rounded individual.
From a very young age, I was keenly interested in computers. The world of the computer always caught my attention, and I wanted to seek more knowledge in this particular field. Computers always seem like a mystery to me, I wanted to know how they work and how exactly they perform tasks in few seconds which humans could take more time to complete. This interest never left me, only growing more profound and passionate about every new discovery I made. From communicating with an artificial intelligence to seeing the wonders of the Internet for the first time, computers have left me fascinated with just how much power yet mystery they hold.
I come from the lower social class and whose family is from a low-income household. My parent’s highest education is high school; therefore, they do not have a career. My father works at a grocery store and my mother cleans houses. When I was a child, my father was the primary breadwinner; therefore, my family did not have a lot of money to spend. Moreover, growing up in a low-income household affected me as a child because I did not have the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities from private institutions that taught ballet, karate, and art because my parents could not afford them.
In today’s world, children are taught from a young age that to be successful, they need to go to college so that they can live a good fulfilling life. But is college really all that worth it and does it fit into everyone’s path the way we are told it should? I knew that NYU is a private university located throughout New York City, with alumni featuring authors I love and writers I admire. It’s probably the most prestigious school in the state, which is why I’ve wanted to attend so badly. I also knew that RISD, Rhode Island School of Design, is the art school of my dreams and that since I've decided I'd like to go to an art school instead of a typical college or university, it has been my goal to get there.
The very essence of a earning a computer science in the country that I have grown to admire, has led me down the unbeaten path of studying at IDC Herziliya. I grew up in an environment where religion is paramount, while secular study took an equally important role. However, the nature of my community in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Is to go on to a yeshiva in Israel. I however, have decided that studying in Israel fulfills my religious prospect, while also earning a degree in a study I have grown to love since the beginning of my junior year.
My undergraduate record highlights my passions and interests, which emerged, grew, and changed during my four years at the University of Colorado. I gravitated toward the study of cultures, politics, and peace and conflict studies. As a junior, I was fortunate to be allowed to enroll into a senior seminar course focusing on peace and conflict studies through the lens of geopolitics. I had never taken a course like this before and I am proud of the A- I earned. The amount of reading coupled with practical knowledge necessary to stay afloat was astounding.
I grew up multicultural, my parents immigrated from China and I’ve spent most of my life living here. My life has been a hybridization of the two cultures and growing up I’ve always been very aware of their differences. The idea that a person’s life is heavily influenced by their background has always interested me. Someone’s background affects their upbringing, the development of their values and interests. The realization that changing a person’s cultural heritage has the potential to change how they live their life fascinates me and also presents me with a challenge.
Making the decision of what college was best for me, was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. I was torn betweeen a private university and a public university. Each school had different things to offer me and seperate characteristics that I loved. My decision was made a lot easier once i discovered that Old Dominion University was more cost effecent, has newer dorms, slightly larger, and has more availabe recources to ensure success. Due to lack of Government funding, attending a private school is much more costly than a regular four year university.
The passion for Higher Education began during my years as an undergraduate student who worked part-time in the Office of Admissions. As I answered the phone for a many of students and parents, I realized that the information that they always needed, they never had. My degree from the 4-year institution that is now my employer is a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications. While I may not be using all of the skills learned while obtaining my degree I am still able to create my own visions for media within my position. There is no certain degree program that prepares you for Higher Education, but I think that is what makes it special when you put together staff members on a team because everyone can have so many ideas and plans that can work with each other.
When I was growing up, there was a huge emphasis put on what college a person was attending. My parents always wanted what was best for me which equated to a college with name recognition and a prestigious history. I always believed them until I went on my first college visit. All the lectures and tours were focused on the aspects my parents fixated on but when I talked to students, it was a whole different story. They did admit that a school’s quality of education was important to them along with how future employers would evaluate their undergrad degree.
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” (Matthew 22:36). Jesus replied, ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment” (Matthew 22:37-40).
Growing up in my household was never easy due to the intense emphasis on education. As a young child it was pressured on me to attend a good university to succeed in life. My brother went to the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) as I was growing up, which led to my family persuading me to go their as well. Sticking to the UC system, I took a private tour of University of California San Diego (UCSD) this past summer—and man did I fall in love with the place. Before even attending the campus I knew the environment was for me, and when I got there, the campus too.
I have a plan to pursue my higher studies in Finland since Finland is one of the best technologically advanced countries. Research facilities and advanced teaching style, practical learning process beside theoretical study make the quality of education in Finland one of the best in the world. Some world best tech phenomena from Finland like Nokia, Linux and angry bird are the consequences of its education system. Furthermore, Zero corruption level of Finland have made it world best place to show ones potential. So, I strongly believe it is the best place for a tech student to learn and live with technology.
I am interested to study in a master’s degree in the field of International Affairs. In fact, in 2011, I graduated a bachelor’s degree at Uzbekistan State World Languages University. Therefore, I am eager to develop my background knowledge and qualification with international affairs and relations. Honestly, I strongly believe that a master’s degree will enhance my academic experience and lead me gain professional achievements. I have to admit that International affairs is the field of Political Science and it studies of relationships among countries, the roles of independent states, inter-governmental organizations and multinational corporations, so it is an academic and a public policy field.
my head smells like The subjects I have chosen have been useful in many ways and I have found them to be of benefit now I am applying for university courses. ICT skills are advantageous in many occupations and I also really enjoy learning new computing skills as I am keenly interested in technology. Ict focuses on hardware and the way computer’s process data, and Computer science focuses and theory and programming. It also focuses on the way in which digital information is communicated. Where did I get my inspiration from?
