Artificial Intelligence vs. Artificial Intelligence. That’s what the network security world is evolving into. Robots fighting each other on a micro level 24/7 to keep our private information safe. In the 21st century the majority of our data is stored in the “cloud” and over the years aspects of protecting this data have been slowly but surely over taken by Artificial Intelligence or “AI.” I believe that due to the complexity of network security, and how many variables are involved AI’s such as Google’s Deep Mind will automate the industry. Many would argue that this is not the case due to the variability of network security but this is simply not true. Recently IT security officers from around the world gathered in Sydney, Australia to discuss the future of the role automation will play in Cyber Security. During this conference Robert Kingma, CEO of ICT Networks, reasserts “The speed of today’s security environment means that if a human is involved, an event will have moved past [network] security and is now a forensics case.” Here we see another leader in the industry doubling down on the inescapable fact that humans cannot defend against malicious attacks by automated bots in real time. So instead we need to employ the same tactics as the other side, use automated AI in such a way that we fight fire with fire. That’s how AI can learn to think in the way that humans do. Machine Learning is a field of computer science that focuses on giving computers the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed. In layman’s terms this is the concept that you give a super computer a set of sensors, and a condition to achieve. Recently Google’s Deep Mind AI did just this, recreating from scratch human walking of all things. Here’s a short video to demonstrate my point;
Here Googles Deep Mind AI was given some sensors to see obstacles around it, and some basic models to work with. From there it was able to recreate walking, in a way that previously only humans have been able to do. As you can see, AI’s aren’t just stagnant pieces of code in today’s day and age. With widespread use of internet services, the network scale is expanding on daily basis and as the network scale increases so will the scale of security threats which can be applied to system connected to the network. Viruses and Intrusions are amongst most common threats that affects computer systems. Virus attacks can be controlled by proper antivirus installation and by keeping the antivirus up to date. Whereas any unauthorized access in the computer system by an intruder can be termed as Intrusion and controlled by IDS. Intruders can be grouped into two major categories which are external and internal Intruders.

The advancement in science and technology has helped to improve the healthcare services tremendously; beyond what even doctors thought was impossible years ago. Technology has also improved the understanding of illnesses and the development of new treatments. Up to date, healthcare scientists and doctors are still working hand in hand in trying to develop new technologies in order to improve the healthcare services as well as offer the best and most appropriate treatment to patients in the future. Advancement in healthcare has been observed fields such as pharmacology, oncology, neurology, psychology, however, for the purpose of this assignment, part one will focus on advances in medical diagnostics, bioinformatics and reproductive health.
Douglas employs notable examples to support his claims and rightfully proves why AI is not as risky as seen by the public. David Parnas’ “The Real Risks of Artificial Intelligence” focuses on the unseen negative aspects of Artificial Intelligence. He argues that AI programs can be untrustworthy and even in some cases, destructive due to the programming approach that programmers take. While Parnas is negative about the concept of Artificial Intelligence, Eldridge see Artificial Intelligence in a brighter light. Both authors present their arguments differently in terms of tone, level of diction, examples and organization.
In Alan Turing’s paper Computing Machinery and Intelligence, he proposes a thought experiment that would eventually be tested, and even later be beaten. He describes an experiment where a man and a woman are in two different rooms and an outside observer has to guess at the sexes of the participants. He then suggests that one of the participants be replaced with a computer. Once humanity is unable to tell the difference and will guess that the computer is human at the same rate that it will guess that it is a machine will answer Turing’s thesis of, “Can machines think?’ (434).
Isaac Asimov’s Reason, shows us how the field of robotics is still a working-progress, Philip K. Dick’s Second Variety introduces the idea of superior, conscious machines who were created by advanced technology, and Kenneth Chang’s “Can Robots Become Conscious?” shares different views on the advancement of machines and robots. I believe machines and robots are not glorified adding-up machines and I think it is possible that they will become capable of original thought the more we advance in the field of robotics. Similar to the iPhone updates, new technology and new studies could lead to intelligent, conscious machines. Technology has come a long way, with the introduction of the Siri of the iPhone, Window 10 2-in-1 computers, flying military drones, and many more.
According to Wagner, humanistic approach is primarily a reaction to the two major views of humanity which are the Freudian perspective and the behavioral perspective thus humanitaristic approach is the “third force”. Humanistic approach highly gives emphasis to the individual that learning how to learn is more important than acquiring factual knowledge. Teachers can play their role in helping the students how to learn and their thinking gives emphasis rather than teachers’ teaching determination.
Cybersecurity has become a growing cause for concern in the United States and indeed countries around the world. On February 9, 2016 President Barack Obama announced his Cybersecurity National Action plan (CNAP) to further the nations efforts to protect government agencies, citizens, and businesses from cyber threats domestic and abroad. Rise of Artificial Intelligence and Ethics: Literature Review The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, authored by Nick Bostrom and Eliezer Yudkowsky, as a draft for the Cambridge Handbook of Artificial Intelligence, introduces five (5) topics of discussion in the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ethics, including, short term AI ethical issues, AI safety challenges, moral status of AI, how to conduct ethical assessment of AI, and super-intelligent Artificial Intelligence issues or, what happens when AI becomes much more intelligent than humans, but without ethical constraints? This topic of ethics and morality within AI is of particular interest for me as I will be working with machine learning, mathematical modeling, and computer simulations for my upcoming summer internship at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) in Norco, California. After I complete my Master Degree in 2020 at Northeastern University, I will become a full time research engineer working at this navy laboratory. At the suggestion of my NSWC mentor, I have opted to concentrate my master’s degree in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and Algorithm Development, technologies which are all strongly associated with AI.
