Historically the meaning of peace is taken differently by individuals, groups and countries according to their socio-cultural background, political and regional interests, benefits, and desires; whereas, universally peace emphasizes upon a state that inculcates inner satisfaction leading towards a positive influence or impact on the outside environment.
Living in an environment of peace is fundamental to human dignity and development. Peace and development are linked together and cannot be isolated. Through education, people understand to live together in peace and work for sustainable development. Education enables people to live together by resolving their differences through discussion and dialogue. In English the word peace is occasionally used as a farewell, especially for the dead, as in the phrase ‘rest in peace’.
Whereas, tolerance is a fair, objective, and permissive attitude towards those whose opinions, practices, race, religion and nationality differ from one's own. Tolerance is such a power that allows any human being to understand the view point of other people, to have respect for others faith and to endure pain and hardship. Intolerance especially religious intolerance breeds conflicts and problems which are not conducive for a good living environment. Tolerance intends to bring an attitudinal change in human beings which results in better living environment.

Tolerance is giving every human being every right that is claim by everyone. Often people get so tolerant that they start tolerating the intolerant. During the Holocaust, the Jews learned to tolerate the violence they had to go through. Violence leads to so much hurt - physically and mentally. People must not use violence in order to maintain human rights.
Human beings must be willing to accept people or opinions different from ourselves. We recently viewed "My So Called Enemy," read "Texas vs. Johnson" by: William J. Brennan and "American Stands for Tolerance" by: Ronald J. Allen. Each piece contained profound information as how different people should be accepted even though they have different thoughts or believes. An example is when it says people should be willing to accept it even though you may not think the same.
What kind of philosophy is that? In the Laramie project, there is the difference between acceptance and tolerance is attention. If we give it attention then we tolerate it.
“It is never wise to seek or wish for another’s misfortune. If malice or envy were tangible and had a shape, it would be the shape of a boomerang.” (Reese). Both envy and malice, or any enmity towards others, ultimately destroys the envious. Throughout the novel A Separate Peace, Gene has a constant, growing envy for Finny.
Part of friendship consists of accepting a friend's shortcomings. This theme, generally associated with A Separate Peace, means that friends should embrace each other's imperfections. Some people seem perfect with no flaws at all while others seem hopelessly imperfect with many flaws, but the truth is everyone makes mistakes. Friends should accept each other's shortcomings because unrealistic expectations can damage a relationship. In A Separate Peace, both Finny and Gene had difficulty accepting a friend's shortcomings.
The former president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, once said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. To change the world people often use physical violence. However, even if they solve the problem, it is only for a short period of time. Using education, people can back up their statements and actions. In this quote, education can mean many different things, such as being intelligent, logical, having a strong mental, and being calm.
In the excerpt from 1984, George Orwell, a British writer, explains the world in which Winston, guy who hates his government, lives. Orwell explains how anything Winston does can be seen or heard by the government. Orwell uses oxymoron, allusion and suspense to describe what it's like to live in a place with no freedom. Orwell relates the book with history and human nature to make it intriguing and exciting for readers. Orwell uses oxymoron to describe the philosophy and beliefs of the government in 1984.
Anna Mow once said, “’Peace is an attitude, the kind that doesn’t create dissension. We create hostility when we turn away from what the other person is saying instead of listening to understand. The primary task is to perceive the perspective of those who differ with us’” (Long 146). Anna Mow covers a great point.
In John Knowles’s novel A Separate Peace Identity is shown as what defines us and makes us be placed in other peoples perspectives. An author can use identity to place characters in the readers mind to portray them a certain way, just as John Knowles did in A Separate peace. An identity can be defined as who a person is inside and out.
The statement is a concept put forward and developed by many individuals and has been dubbed the Democratic Peace Theory. Its origins can be found in the article ‘Perpetual Peace’ written in 1795 by philosopher Emmanuel Kant. He proposed the idea that countries where the people vote for their government, where their collective voice influences government decisions, there is a reluctance for war. In modern times, this has been further worked on by scholars such as Michael Doyle who claimed that secure and stable democracies have yet to actually go to war with one another. (Doyle, 2011)
Education is interconnected with every single strand of the economy, laws, jobs, research… I believe that education is not only one of the most important factors in a development of a country but instead, it has a greater significance than other factors. First and Foremost, Education is the foundation of our society. It gives us the power of knowledge and the power of assisting others. Nelson Mandela once said: “Education is the most powerful weapons which you can use to change the world – The Former
Ethics according to my understanding is that division of philosophy which concerns with the moral principles that guide us in terms of our behaviour and way of doing things. Ethics simply helps a person in distinguishing between the right and wrong, good and bad, just and unjust, acceptable and unacceptable. It incorporates the ethical standards or the code of ethics guiding a person into the right path by instilling discipline and other virtues in our life’s daily activities. As professional teachers we endowed with dignity and reputation with high code of conduct while practicing the noble teaching profession which also requires us to follow set of ethical and moral principles, standards and values. Ethics in education concerns with the study of ethical standards or basic principles related rooted in the education system.
Teaching philosophy is described by Sadker and Sadker as, “Behind every school and every teacher is a set of related beliefs - a philosophy of education – that influences what and how students are taught. A philosophy of education represents answers to questions about the purpose of schooling, a teacher’s role and what should be taught and by what methods.” (Teacher, Schools and Society. 2005). With this definition in consideration, my teaching philosophy is “I believe that children learn best when they are given the chance to choose, discuss and explore what they want to learn, when they want to learn and how they want to learn.

Malcolm X once said “Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepared for it today.” In the western world education plays a vital role in shaping our future; it determines if we will survive or fail in the world we created for ourselves. Our world is constantly changing and it requires a society that is well versed in understanding the problems deriving from cultural differences and tolerance of one another’s beliefs and perceptions. With the power of education we are able to deal with the problems of economic, government, religion and culture differences.
