The English 121 class itself has been both challenging and rewarding. With the help of my instructor and those at the Writing Lab, I was given specific instruction on what needed correcting on my paper. Since a few different people viewed and pointed out issues they saw with my paper, I felt nothing was overlooked. Each time I visited the lab, I was made aware of any new or still existing issues that I needed to correct with my paper. There were many areas that I needed to address, such as MLA format, citation, grammatical and spelling errors, word choice, and style. As a result, I was able to not only fix the issues myself, but gained a better understanding of how to fully present a polished academic paper. Everything I leaned from the initial
When registering for this class, a wave of worry ran through me, because I had minimal skill when it came to writing, particularly in the field of formal writing. The high school I attended was academically poor, we never wrote formal papers, just informal book and movie responses. Therefore I was apprehensive about this class. This course was quite intricate, but I attend skills that will aid me for the rest of my academic career. Rhetorical knowledge, critical inquiry, process, and conventions are all concepts I have acquired.
Some of the changes I have made on a paper that I wrote for Enc. 1102 that Dr. Dorbad has recommended that I make to improve my writing. In one of our first assignments that Dr. Dorbad had given us was to write, was a letter to an author about his essay that he had wrote. The author was Mr. Lars Eighner and his essay is My Daily Dives in the Dumpster. Some of the suggestions that I was given were to properly cite the author when I am quoting him/her, I had wrote “I prefer the term scavenging and use the word scourging when I mean to be obscure”.
The 214 English hybrid course has got me into thinking more about constructing a strong thesis and creating solid topic sentences. Being able to identify my thesis has also helped my writing have better organization that helps the overall flow of my essay. With blogging incorporated into our academic criteria it was certainly something different. Blogging geared me into reading more articles and analysis the authors use of rhetorical devices. After this course I have gone more on magazine websites to read current topics.
When I started to edit the paper I went through every single sentence and paragraph to grasp a better understanding see if I got my point cross
This chapter can help young writers in English class with their papers in many different ways. For instance, Trimble gives examples on what a veteran writer does in order to make their writing interesting. He also gives out techniques on how you can get a reader’s attention or how you can fix your writing to make it readable instead of having nonsense. What makes this difficult for me as a writer is that I write what ever comes to my mind and it will not make sense. Another thing that makes it difficult for me as a writer is that I am not good at getting the readers attention and having him hooked on to my work.

Over the course of English 1302 at Texas Tech, I feel that my skills as a writer improved significantly. When beginning the class, I knew little about writing a literature review or researched argument. With the help of my instructor’s lectures and the University Writing Center, I was able to effectively get my point across effectively while forming a well developed and well spoken manner. The advice given to me about argumentative essays and integrating sources helped significantly over the course of this class, and the skills learned in English 1302 helped me in other classes this semester when writing as well. One of the things I have learned that influenced me the most was my professor’s advice about an argument.
A final change was to format my essay to meet MLA guidelines. I can conclude, that all changes made had benefited my essay on fluency, word choice and sentence structure. After implementing the changes suggested I was able to write a stronger
English 1121 has helped me to become an enhanced reader and writer. I now have confidence in my writing and reading abilities. I never realized that I could become a good writer. A tremendous amount of effort was put forth into each of my papers and I asked questions whenever I was frazzled. I strived for success.
Writing has always been an issue but yet interesting subject of mine. As hard as I try and write essays, and papers I just can’t get the hang of writing. But after taking this class, I did learn different writing technique and improved my writing proficiency, material body of formatting, and how to uncovering and properly use sources. Through class exams, essays, and a research paper, I was able to learn new writing skills. Although I have learned a variety of things, my writing still needs improvement.
My Writing Experience In previous courses, my writing skills have been mediocre or just enough to pass the class. Throughout the duration of this course, I have written a variety of papers using different techniques and skills. Previously I would write assuming that the only audience would be my instructor. This course has helped me realize that there are many steps and skills involved with writing a well-organized and easy to comprehend essay.
Across the United States today, nearly every college student has either seen or heard of MLA formatting before; however, many students still do not know how to properly incorporate the MLA formatting into their essays. For many years, I shared this same struggle. It was during my various high school research projects, when MLA formatting finally clicked for me. Despite this initial challenges with MLA formatting, my experience through recent research projects gave me the much needed opportunity to familiarize myself with the MLA writing format in order to bring my essays to the next level. Up until two years ago, my experiences with both MLA and research have been very limited; that is, until my teacher asked me to do an research project called National History Day.
One change that I made, was that I took the main points from my research paper and
I did struggle with this some as with all of my other classes it was hard to find time to proofread it or get someone to read and help me proofread it. I still need to work on seeing the errors and fixing them in an essay. Using the textbook and OWL definitely helped me learn how to fix issues as well as let me have a way to look up things I wasn't sure conformed to MLA format. Using these websites will definately be a useful tool down my school
The method of research, citing facts, and brainstorming ideas was very intense in this class. Reading various arguments debating the topic I want to write on, was very challenging and time consuming. In this reflection essay I want to show how researching process was vital on changing my writing style. Also, what I’ve learned in English 105 class after a great summer semester with lots of material to learn from. Researching was drastically important, making every paper I made heavily based on research.
