INTRODUCTION

Herbal plants are used by local Filipino folks to cure some of the common illnesses that beset at any stage in life. Before, herbal plants can cure one illness and most were used as alternative medicines and first aid applications to ease cough, fever, bleeding in wounds and severe pain. Among the first herbal plants certified with therapeutic contents by the Bureau of Food and Drug Administration as scientifically tested are: akapulko, ampalaya, bawang, bayabas, lagundi, niyug-niyogan, sambong, tsaang gubat, ulasimang bato, and yerba buena.

Nowadays, there many herbal medicines are available in pharmacies and in the market. They could be a combination of or just one plant to address a common ailment. The herbal preparations are being examined by the BFAD and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) through laboratory analysis. However, these herbs were not used in experiments; thus, they received the tag “No Approved Therapeutic Claim.” Nonetheless, people still insist to buy them because of the many testimonies of sick people who were cured with their use.

These herbal preparations are combined from two to even 100 herbal plants mixed into one. Some available preparations in the market can cure diabetes, even cancer, incidence of dengue fever and many more. …show more content…
