Children who suffer from ADHD are more likely to thrive in finishing tasks when they happen in a predictable pattern at a predictable place. The parent’s job is to make and sustain structure in the home so their child knows what they should expect and what they are expected to accomplish.
Guidelines for a Healthy Routine
A few guidelines for creating a routine include the following suggestions.
Clocks and Timers
Using clocks and timers throughout the home with a big one in the child’s bedroom allows them to keep track of the time so they know what they need to be doing. Allow enough time for your child’s necessary action, such as getting ready in the morning or doing homework, and use a timer for transitional times.

In this section, you need to provide your child with specific tasks to make it easier for them. Rather than just saying clean up all your stuff, try something along the lines of put all your toys away neatly on the shelf. Children with ADHD need more direction than ever from you.
Dinner Routine
Allow them to help with making dinner. This not only takes some of the stress of you, but it sets your child up for a healthy routine later on in life. Involve them in age-appropriate activities. Make a dinner checklist for them that has things such as setting the table, making the salad and pouring the drinks on it.
After dinner relaxation activity. Children who have ADHD have a hard time settling down for the night, especially after dinner. Even if they are tired, they might still need your help. If you have a habit of watching television in the evening, then choose a calmer show. Avoid any drama shows and stick with some light comedies. A quiet board game is a healthy option if you don’t want to turn on the television. Avoid any energizing activities such as video games.
Bedtime Routine
Getting ready for bed. This is a good time for a structured checklist like showering or bathing, washing the face, brushing the teeth, putting on the pajamas, and putting their dirty clothes in the
