Life of Pi
Life of Pi is a drama film with some stains of fantasy. The film is based on the book Life of Pi which was written by Yann Martel in 2001, and directed by Ang Lee it became a film in 2012. Life of Pi has been nominated to several awards and won many of those, so it’s not hard to understand that this is a good film in several perspectives.
Since I have not read the book myself I find it hard to tell if Ang Lee changed a lot of the story when he made a film, but anyway I know that the main subject is the same. Life of Pi tells us the story of an Indian boy named Pi. Pi is a shorter version of his real name Piscine, and because of what Piscine sounds like Pi is bullied in school. However, this doesn’t tear Pi apart and to be able to be called Pi instead of Piscine he breaks the record of writing all the pi numbers. After that everyone calls him Pi, just as he wants. Pi is a very religious person, and because of this he has faith in three

The religious thoughts that we have when we are watching this film are probably the exact same as Pi has wondered about at one or several parts of his life, and I think that is the thing about this film. We are supposed to think of the same things as Pi does and in one way re-live his life, all the way from him being very young until he’s a father himself. The entire film is just the story of Pi’s life and due to that fact that’s simply why it is called Life of Pi.
Naming both the book and the film to Life of Pi is a very good thing to do because it gives the readers and the viewers a true message about what the story will deal with. When you read the title you understand that this person Pi probably didn’t have a boring life with nothing to learn from. You just know that you will look at some things different after reading the book or watching the film, and in this case you learn that you always should keep fighting and the we all are different people who thinks in different
Sense after reading "life of Pi" Pi is a teenager born in India and at the same time believing in Christianity, Islam and Hinduism. His father runs a zoo, so he knows the habits of animals. Frankly speaking, the beginning of this story is not attractive, mixed with a religious belief in a teenager's growth experience. Then the story officially entered into the "fantasy draft". Pi family take boat to move to Canada with their animals, Pi's father wanted to bring the animals to a foreign country in order to sell a good price.
Yann Martel is conveying readers that love is also another important key for survival. Exp1: All throughout the movie and the book of Life of Pi, Pi loves his family, and Richard Parker. However during his survival, he had forget his family and only think about Richard Parker and taking care of him.
Pi continues his journey by learning how to live in a small space with these animals and even training one of them. In the end Pi reveals another story with people replacing the animals that were on the lifeboat before. Pi had initially used animals which best represented the people who were really in the boat. This showed how throughout the story, since these people were put into a life threatening situation, they had revealed a more primal side. Life of Pi is accompanied with various symbols, with each
Throughout the story, Piscine, or Pi, gave up many things to be who he was and to stay alive. Whether it was his happiness he was giving away, or his faith, he was always losing something throughout the story. However, even through these moments where any normal individual would have given up, he still pushed himself to keep having faith in himself. Because of these facts, the central theme of the story is about sacrifice. The development of the story is based on sacrifice, and the specific details of the film show how the theme is about sacrifice.
Water is a significant symbol of spirituality and religion in Life of Pi. From the beginning of the movie, where adult Pi introduces himself to the author and tells the story behind his unusual name, the theme of water makes an appearance. Pi’s given name, Piscine Molitor, is a pool in France. Pi’s father’s friend, whom he refers to as Mamaji (a Hindi word for uncle), tells Pi’s father Santosh that if one swims
Pi is a character that goes through changes dark and unforgettable events starts to occur in his life. He goes from following his beliefs and is happy who his with his life to a character who is scared and doesn’t know what to do. Through the course of events I have felt sympathy towards and sorrow towards Pi. He is a very interesting person who believes in many religions and practises them, but he is seen as a person that is very weird through the eyes of many, especially that of his family. His parents don’t like the idea that he follows different religions and even don’t like to talk about it.
The theme in Life of Pi is without a doubt the hardships in order to survive. The whole novel is about enduring pain, hardships, starvation, dehydration and more. I believe the author wrote this novel to reveal the hardships one has to proceed through in order to keep living. Pi certainly shows how quick life can change from ordinary to a long lasting nightmare. Surely this can happen to anyone, but not everyone can survive the long lasting nightmare.
The Novel, Life of Pi, tells of Piscine Molitor Patel and his journey across the Pacific Ocean. Pi’s journey starts when the cargo ship that he was aboard with his family and all the animals from his family’s zoo sinks while on route to Canada. Pi survives on a lifeboat with one sole companion, a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker for 227 days at sea. Then Pi finds himself in a infimary in Mexico telling his story to two Japanese officers from the company who owned the Tsimtsum. Pi tells them about being at sea with a tiger, and the officers do not believe that Pi is telling the truth, so they ask for the real story.
Without Pi, there would be no story to write about, the book would lose the effect of connecting with people and putting them in Pi’s position. In Life or Pi, Pi is seen as a dynamic character. At the beginning of the story, he is an innocent young boy that hasn’t experienced any awful events in his life; but once the crash occurs and he is on his own, and he was forced to change to adapt to his life at sea. Pi says to himself during his voyage, “ I descended to a level of savagery I never imagined possible”(Martel, 235 digital copy). This goes to show that Pi had to change to fit his environment, by drifting away from his vegetarian values, and eating what was necessary for survival.
Disney movies not only pack a lot of fun and entertainment for kids as well as adults, but also contain valuable life lessons. It is easy for children to get caught up in all the magic, mystery and catchy songs of the movies, but beneath it all are stories that even adults can take to heart. Take a look at some of the important life lessons that are taught by the characters in our favorite Disney movies. 1 Always Believe in Yourself – Aladdin Although seen as a riff-raff and street rat by others Aladdin knows that if people look closer they would find out that there is so much more to him than just being a poor boy.
Despite Yann Martel’s ability to incorporate some comedic and ironic elements to the novel, Life of Pi shows a stronger sense of an Autumn Tragedy and Summer Romance. As the story progresses, it is only towards the end of the narrative where the reader realizes the horrific and shocking reality of Pi’s journey. After reading the third part of the novel and analyzing Frye’s four archetypal narratives, I believe the most fitting mythos for Life of Pi would be an Autumn Tragedy. Weather Pi lost his mother to a cannibalistic cook or at sea, the loss of his entire family is something that is undoubtedly tragic and unbearable. Before this, however, Pi experiences a childhood that tailors nicely to Frye’s first few phases of an Autumn Tragedy.
Religion makes up a large percentage of Pi's life and the events that he experiences. People who follow Christianity base their beliefs on the life, teachings and death of Jesus Christ ("Christianity Fast Facts", CNN). The religion of Islam is a one god faith, Allah, and his messages given to and received by the Prophet Muhammad in Saudi Arabia ("Islam"). Hindus believe in one God who is named “Brahman” and view other Gods and Goddesses as manifestations, different forms, of Brahman ("Hinduism Facts"). The book Life of Pi by Yann Martel is about a boy named Pi who lost his family in a shipwreck and faces danger in different ways.
Known to all as - I double underlined the first two letters of my given name – Pi Patel.” (Martel, 22-23) Why would we shrink our names to fit into society? If we are shrinking our names to fit into society, we are masking our identity. I think that this is where Pi asks who am I? because he shrinks his identity to fit in.

In this novel Life of Pi, first thing is Pi is not mathematical pi, which has got value of 3.14. It is short name of the hero of the novel Piscine Molitor Patel.
