Parents can ease their teen’s depression through many ways but one of the most important is just listening to the teen’s problems. With all of the stress, pressure, and sometimes anxiety of life hitting the teen over time, it can be relieving for a teen to just flush out what is on their mind. In the article “Parents Guide to Teen Depression”, it states: “Open up a dialogue by letting your teen know what specific depression symptoms you’ve noticed and why they worry you. Then ask your child to share what he or she is going through—and be ready and willing to truly listen. Hold back from asking a lot of questions (most teenagers don’t like to feel patronized or crowded), but make it clear that you’re ready and willing to provide whatever support they need.”(Robinson, Segal,
“Thanks to advancements in diagnosis and treatment, more children and teens than ever before are currently on medication. This fact has some people worried that caregivers today are perhaps too eager to seek out medical solutions to behavior problems.” Though certain prescribed antidepressants and other medications are suggested to patients by doctors, they indeed have side effects that should be taken seriously. Suicide is one of these side effects, and many teenage suicides are linked to such medicines. Because of this, patients are instructed to be extremely careful when taking medication to treat mental illnesses and depression.

Adolescent depression is a serious development issue which faces most households, hence requires proper attention. The occurrence of adolescent depression is most common in the modern society, though the impact of the depression has not been addressed adequately and may be significant. Many behavioural problems, for example, school dropout, drug abuse, unprotected sexual activity, suicide, self- inflicted injuries are the result of depression. “Depression is a disorder most commonly associated with adolescent suicide” (Hittleman 1). When the pain is too hard to endure, some choose to intentionally end their own lives. Teens usually face more difficulties than tweens, yet they’re not as mature as adults, making them the most vulnerable victims of depression. In Jay Asher’s novel Thirteen Reasons Why, he made an accurate portrayal of depression by delineating the pessimistic thoughts of protagonist Hannah Baker throughout her story, and without receiving succor from her friends, teachers or parents, committed suicide to end an unabated affliction. Depression is an agonizing experience, yet it can be imperceptible from outside.
Teens Get Stressed Too Adults often believe that teens do not have much to be stressed about. Teenagers do indeed have a lot on their plate. Dealing with school, a job, school work, working towards getting their permit/license, sports, even things at home, teenagers tend to be extremely stressed. A majority of teenagers suffer from anxiety and depression from all of the pressure put on them.
A new type of plague is upon the world. It is similar to no other disease, does not spread through ill, coughing lungs, and it will not contaminate a victim when sneezed on. It grows in thoughts and ideas of several different ages. However, that exposure has become prolonged much longer in the generation I call my own, kids thirteen to nineteen. The suicide rates of teens have skyrocketed in the last decade or so, causing countless preventable deaths, among my fellow students.
Teens should be given an environment where they feel comfortable telling someone how they feel. A key component in preventing teen suicide linked to depression is for the teens to feel socially connected to others, this protection factor has been linked directly to positive emotional health. Depression often stems from isolation, if teenagers are given a place where they no longer feel isolated, in essence, this could allow for reduction in the number of depression diagnosis’s and essentially leading to less teenage lives

Many people assume depression is just a change in behavior that may die out in a few weeks or even a month; however there is much more to it than that. Often, it goes without notice because people don 't want to face the fact or don 't know what is actually going on with them.
Teens have to know that there are always solutions or ways for them to cope with problems. Parents can show them family pictures, hold a small party to enhance an opportunity to understand and give them positive
Addiction is the reliance on a routine. There are many addictive stages. Addiction, as it comes along, becomes a way of life. The persistent use of the substance causes to the user serious physical or psychological problems and dysfunctions in major areas of his or her life. The drug user continues to use substances and the compulsive behavior despite the harmful consequences, and tries to systematically avoid responsibility and reality, while he or she tends to isolate himself/herself from others because of guilt and pain (Angres, & Bettinardi-Angres, 2008).
Common examples include listening to music, trying to make their own decisions, daydreaming, trying to figure out solutions, keeping up friendships, watching television and being close to people they care about. These behaviors are appropriate for adolescents who are trying to become independent, take responsibility for themselves, and draw on friends and family for support. There are as many misconceptions about teen depression as there are about teenagers in general. Yes, the teen years are tough, but most teens struggle with balancing all the filial and school responsibilities they have. They try so hard to balance them it burns them out and eventually weighs them down to procrastination, then unproductivity.
