While the first ten chapters of Jay Heinrichs’ piece of work principally focuses on both traditional and modern rhetoric for contemporary public speakers and readers, chapters 1 to 13 of James Loewen’s book attempts to study why most American high school students hate history studies. In particular, Heinrichs’ book focuses on past knowledge and ideologies like Cicero and Aristotle’s theories, as well as modern concepts tailored for modern public speakers (Heinrichs 127). Jonathan Edwards version of God was very aggressive and unforgiving. Insult after continuing insult, this does not seem like the Jesus Christ with the wonderful forgiving spirit. With the words, “God hates you,” repeated multiple times throughout the sermon, it is truly hypocritical that the God described as forgiving and loving of all would say “I hate you,” every five minutes. I personally feel like this is not the way God would like to be described, and that God would much rather liked to be showed as a forging and gentle spirit.
In life some feel the need to prove something to others. That they are better, stronger, or even more intelligent. Whatever the case may be people will go through extreme measures to prove themselves. But who do we really need to prove anything to? Is it our parents?
People rebel when no justice being served. It is understandable why people act a certain way. Have you ever loved someone more than yourself? A person is your biggest pride and joy to be safe? Can you imagine how it feels to no longer have your pride and joy with in a split second, due to the way they look?
The question of morality in a criminal case has always been a topic of concern. A question arises when considering the following; does a good cause justify a serious crime? In John Brown’s case, he uses the abolitionist’s cause to justify the murder of several men. Though his intentions were good, and his cause was mighty, it’s not morally sound to murder people. Many would argue that he was a hero, that fighting for the end of slavery in the manner he did was an act of bravery.
Argumentative Essay Bartleby the Scrivener is a story narrated from the perception of a Manhattan lawyer responsible for managing an interesting office. The center of this narrative is Bartleby, and it concentrates on the affiliation between him and the narrator who hires him to work in his office. There is not much clarity as to how the narrator finds Bartleby, but this is not an issue of concern until matters take a different direction. Bartleby is revealed as a good worker in comparison to other employees in the office that tend to show their faults like partly being excellent employees.
Within the Ted Talk, “For Argument’s Sake,” Daniel H. Cohen does an effective job at proving his claim that arguments are thought of as war-like situations with winner and losers instead of as an opportunity to gain knowledge. For example, Cohen states, “But the war metaphor, the war paradigm or model for thinking about arguments, has, I think, deforming effects on how we argue . . . It magnifies the us-versus them aspect of it” (TedTalk). In this assertion, he does a prominent job at explaining that the common thought of an argument is a battle in which one side wins which proves his point. Chris McCandless was in his early 20’s, he was the kind of that guy that wanted to learn and experience life without all of the material things. He wanted to be independent from his parents and friends so Chris did something that would be insane for most of us humans but to him, it wasn’t. He went into the wild of Alaska for months, in fact, McCandless even thought he could make it out alive at the end of his journey. As a matter of fact, he was known as being a risk taker and enjoyed being out and about in the nature side of the world. Many would believe that Chris McCandless went into the wild to purposely kill himself; however, I myself believe that McCandless did not do it purposely.
Noel, a 6-month old golden retriever, arrives on the front porch step of SICSA with a gleefully wagging tail and a heart bursting with love. Unfortunately, no room exists at SICSA for Noel, and they must turn her away to a shelter that can only do one thing: euthanize her. The argument over whether or not communities should institute no-kill shelters presents itself all over Ohio. Multiple people in Ohio believe that no-kill shelters cause financial stress on the community and prove to be a substantial hassle. The required readings that I enjoyed during the past year were The Great Gatsby, The Taming of the Shrew and Frankenstein. These novels had lessons to express. In The Great Gatsby, I learned that people change and if you live in the past you 're in for a rude awakening. Taming a woman is foolish and you 're never tamed its compromise you succumb to in the Taming of the Shrew. In Frankenstein, your passion can drive you to accomplish a multitude of endeavors for ethical or unethical reasoning, yet it will come with consequences.
Alexa Kersting was a young fourteen-year-old girl from West Fargo waiting for a life-changing lung transplant. Kersting was diagnosed with lung disease by the age of seven, and developed pulmonary hypertension-- high blood pressure that affects the arteries in the lungs and the right side of the heart-- by the age of twelve (“Pulmonary Hypertension”). Once she was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension, she was placed on the transplant waiting list, and for the upcoming months Alexa was on that list, she was on oxygen twenty-four hours a day. Unfortunately, she could never do any of the things other “normal” children could do due to her illnesses and treatments, meaning her hobbies had to be less strenuous, such as piano and art.
