This paper will examine the purpose of Critical Thinking and its importance in the medical field, especially in the field of nursing. There are many aspects to nursing, but the two that will be discussed in this paper are critical thinking and concept mapping. Critical thinking is essential to skilled nursing; therefore, it is essential to nursing education. It is believed skilled nursing depends upon a well-reasoned philosophy of nursing rooted in a deep and rich conception of critical thinking. In the educational curriculum for nursing students, the focus has been to present problem-based learning and evidence-based practice concepts to help increase critical thinking skills.
In the following paragraphs, the grand theory of Jean Watson will be explored for its usefulness in practice. We will explore how the theory is congruent with current nursing standards and nursing interventions. Next, we will study if her theory has been tested empirically, if it is supported by research and if it is accurate. We will explore if there is evidence that her theory has been used by nursing educators, researchers, and nursing administrators. Then we will study how her theory is relevant socially and cross-culturally.
Introduction Nursing is a profession. Besides caring patients, it also requires management and leadership skills to raise its professional standard. We have been introduced the idea of nursing leadership and management in this course. We were also assessed by doing group interview and presentation on the themes related to nursing leadership and management. As a nurse, I strive to make the core competencies a part of my daily practice. Nurses utilize evidence-based nursing knowledge and professional nursing judgement to assess health needs, provide nursing care, educate clients and support individuals to manage their health holistically. They practice in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. They are accountable for their scope of practice including the supervision and delegation of nursing activities to the enrolled nurses and nursing assistants. Nurses practice in a variety of clinical contexts depending on their education preparation and practice experience.
The nursing profession revolves around evidenced based practice, and even if I do not go on to do research, possessing the ability to read and review research that has been conducted will continue to develop skills which will help me identify bias, statistics, misleading information and conclusions drawn by the researchers. Nursing profession is a practice that utilizes findings based on facts and/or evidence. In that, research plays a vital role in building a strong foundation to support the knowledge of nursing. In the profession of nursing field, research and/or evidence provides rationalized, cost-effective, and quality care interventions through validation (Barbara & Susan, 2014). It also assists with existing knowledge in creation of new ideas and innovations. Decisions are made based on research results.
