Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

All good books must have three specific qualities. The first quality a good book must have are believable characters that we care about. The second quality that a good book needs is a well-written plot. Finally, all good books must have a universal theme. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was written by Jonathan Safran Foer. In this fictional story the main characters are: Oskar Schell, his mother, Oskar’s grandparents and Mr. Black. Oskar is the main character and a smart nine-year-old boy who accidentally breaks his deceased father’s vase in which he finds a mysterious envelope with a key inside. On the envelope it says “Black.” Throughout the rest of the book, we see him going from person to person in New York with the last name Black trying to find an answer to the envelope. “...I decided that I would meet every person in New York with the last name Black (pg.86-87).” After meeting many blacks, he eventually finds out that the key belonged to a bank account owned by one of the Blacks. Lastly, all good books need to have a universal theme. Everyone can most likely relate to Oskar’s life. He lost his dad and got really depressed. This shows that the characters are believable that we care about and have legitimate personalities. This book has a problem that over the course of the story gets resolved proving the plot to be well-written. Lastly, the universal theme teaches us a lesson that love can be found when you’re positive. Since “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” possesses all these qualities, thereby proving that this book is well-written and
