The U.S. needs to change something to lower this number. Raising the legal minimum driving age to 18 would help lower the number of accidents involving teens by cutting the amount of teenage drivers on the road in half. Obviously it would be objected by teens who want to drive as soon as they can, but in the long run it could save their lives. Teen drivers are by far the most dangerous on the road, and have the highest chance of getting into accidents. “The rate of crashes, fatal and nonfatal, per mile driven for 16-year-old drivers is almost 10 times the rate for drivers ages 30 to 59” (CBS/AP).

“Road crashes are the leading cause of death among young people ages 15-29, and the second leading cause of death worldwide among young people ages 5-14” (Asirt, 2016). Rising the age on driving is important, because the age play an important role in driving. Many people consider that driving at young age will have more accidents. Also, drivers should have high skills in driving, and how they can avoid accidents in many cases. Some teenagers get excited about driving, and they get the license quickly without performing.

So the teenagers are the main benefit because of many reasons but unfortunately they would take subject of raise driving age as a punishment. Raise driving age would save teenagers lives. Texting and driving is a big problem in our society. In the U.S. alone about 32,000 people are killed and two million injured in crashes every year. More than ninety percent of vehicle crashes in the U.S. happen because of distracted driving (Kalra and Paddock 1). Such as texting or any other form of distracted driving. Car accidents occur mostly due to negligent and reckless drivers on the road and they often don’t realize the consequences of their actions until it is too late. The consequences may not be the same for all drivers. While some may walk away with a small scratch on their car, some may end up with a totaled car and serious injuries.
