This chapter presents the background of the research, statement of research problem, objective of the research, significance of the research, scope and limitation of the research and definition of the key term.
A. Background of Study
English is an international language, as an International language most people in the world use English languange to communicate with another people, to make a relationship, to get social culture, economy, science and technology goals. That is why it is important for the people to master in English. It is to increase their ability and knowledge to face the global competition. Acording to David Crystal (2003) A language achieves a genuinely global status when it develops special role that is recognized in every country.
In Indonesia, Englis is the first foreign language. That is teach since the students in Elementary school until in university as a compulsory subject.

Content Analysis is a research technique for the subjective, Systematic, and quantitave description of the manifest content of communication. (Barelson 1952:18).

Content Analysis is any research technique for making inferences by systematically and objectively identifying specified characteristics of messages. (Holistri 1968:601). According to Krippendorff (1980:21) Content analysis is a research technique for making replicable and valid inferences from data to their text.

Introduction The purpose of this report is to summarize what our team, the Fig Neutrons, did for the final project of ECE160. For the project we used an Arduino Sparkfun Kit to build a Simon says game with multiple game modes that would display several different game statistics on an LCD screen. The work the team has done includes Charlieplexing LEDs and including code for implementing the LEDs, writing code for a reverse Simon game. We also had to make the game play a different song than the one provided, and write code for the LCD to display wins, losses, game length, and the number of games played.

English 1010 was an amazing class, during the period that the class was going on I was able to develop my communication skills and become aware of the world around me and how individuals operate according to what the society wants from them. The English 1010 class helped in developing a new aspect of reasoning, analyzing and drawing adequate conclusion. 1. Researches excluded students that are diagnose with mental problems because the researches don 't want to make them uncomfortable on what students without mental health problems feel. I also believe that students with mental health problems were excluded because they will not give an accurate answer. 2. Kathryn Stockett successfully uses rhetorical devices to get the reader to feel and understand the perspectives of the protagonists. Stockett uses pathos, ethos, and logos in her book, since the book about social injustice. The topics in the book range from inequality of the sexes to social classes and racism, Stockett is successful in getting the reader to reflect while reading the book and the themes of the book have a clear presence. We see Stockett use ethos and pathos in the very first chapters when we learn that Hilly doesn't like Minny and Minny doesn't want to say why at first, but the incident with Ms. Holbrook was affecting her chances of getting a job because of the influence Hilly has over this suburban society. In some instances where Stockett uses ethos, pathos is also included in her writing.

In Project #1, I chose to make a rhetorical analysis of a chapter from Jason Fagone 's book Ingenious: A True Story Of Invention, Automotive Daring, And The Race To Revive America, "How to spend your entire income building a car to travel 100 miles on a gallon of gas. " The first chapter mainly focuses on two main characters: Kevin and Jen. Mr. Fagone introduces us to them by telling us how they both met, grew up, where they went to school and what for, where they worked, and how they started working together on building the car for X Prize. The first day of college was different for me since it started during the summer. My writing skills in the beginning of the class weren 't as strong as they are now. I knew college would be a much more difficult than high school because there would be a larger work load. The diagnostic essay was the first essay I wrote in college. I was really worried about the results I would get on a college level.
In the article "The Concept of a Discourse Community" by John Swales (1990). He aimed to define the meaning of a discourse community; then he carefully deconstructs discourse community into six fundamental attributes that are important for recognizing a discourse community. Swales’ definition of a discourse community is a group that has objectives or purposes, and utilize communication to accomplish those objectives. He states that a discourse community is presented as a more practical and purposeful gathering than speech fraternity or speech group. The six essential characteristics that Swales (1990) belief to be the core of a discourse community are its goals, intercommunication, participation, genres, Lexis, and expertise.

Whenever I think about what I have learned since the beginning of this course—English 101, It always gives me a great pleasure to tell myself and people around me that I have learned something great; something that can make me a better writer. However, I have learned some writing skills based on the course’s teaching learning objectives that can help me in my future courses. Also, I’m glad, because my strength in writing essays have increased. Most especially, writing narrative essay in MLA formatting. I might not be an excellent writer, but I know I have not stopped learning, and I know I will get pay-off in the long run if I can keep the ongoing pace of my learning—guaranteed.
To have a decent understanding of how the human condition relates to literature, a person must have an understanding of what the human condition is. Medically, human condition relates to the state a human is in; however, on a larger scale, the meaning of human condition relates to the meaning of being alive and having the ability to feel emotions: happiness, sadness, anger, etc. Throughout history, society has a way of altering the meaning of different pieces of literature, which overall result in the meaning of the human condition changing. Rhetorical analysis is an investigation into how someone uses his/her critical reading skills to analyze text. The objective of the rhetorical analysis is the study of how the author writes, instead of what the author wrote. At that point, we need to examine the method that the author uses to attain his goal. According to Jonah G. Willihnganz “A rhetorical analysis is an examination of how a text persuades us of its point of view. It focuses on identifying and investigating the way a text communicates, what strategies it employs to connect to an audience, frame an issue, establish its stakes, make a particular claim, support it, and persuade the audience to accept the claim”.
Writing is a language. If we take simple words and bluntly put the phrases into paragraphs, it defies the meaning of this broad dialect. I, Abigail Platon, will not only understand this odd, foreign language but make it my own while painting a picture with the power of correct grammar and lines of beautiful word choice. The only way I can find a gateway to this dream is through, one, hard work on my own and, two, in Temple City’s English Honors class. Through this program, I can achieve the goals I desire to complete, either in the academic year or the “foreseeable” future.
