The “Like Kanye Loves Kanye” meme originates from what may be most obvious, the vain reputation of rapper Kanye West. The world is familiar with Kanye for not only his music, but his selfish personality. For example, in September of 2009, Kanye interrupted Taylor Swift’s speech after she won the award for Best Female Video at the MTV Video Music Awards (Know Your Meme). He got on stage, took the microphone from Taylor Swift, and proceeded telling the audience that Beyoncé had “one of the best videos of all time” (Alessandro R. C. ). The picture shown in the meme comes from this specific incident. In addition, the meme also alludes to the cliché saying “I want someone to love me,” which is common for people to say who are looking for a relationship. …show more content…
Analyzing this idea, the meme also uses the type of humor known as irony. Ironic humor involves “incongruity and discordance with norms, in which the intended meaning is opposite, or nearly opposite, to the literal meaning” (Nichols). Therefore, the chosen meme is ironic because the creator seems to be asking for the kind of love a conceited person has for himself or herself. When in search of love, one does not typically desire selfish qualities in their spouse or mate. However, the meme suggests the creator wants to have a love like Kanye has for himself. Wanting a selfish love is ironic since selfish individuals only have love for themselves and do not have the ability to love another. The kind of love the creator is looking for is incomparable to Kanye’s love because being loved by an egotistical man more than he loves himself does not …show more content…
The creator’s intention in using the picture of Kanye at the Video Music Awards emphasizes the meaning and portrayal of the humor. The interruption is one of Kanye West’s most memorable moments in Hollywood. As a result, the incident is a familiar world-wide affair, so the meme is a recognizable picture. The chosen picture emphasizes the meaning of the meme because the public recognizes the photo as one of Kanye’s most selfish moments in the media. This relates to the meaning of the meme because the humor comes from understanding how much Kanye loves himself to realize anyone would desire that much love in a
Sedaris uses irony in his memoir “Us and Them”. As the Tomkeys go out of town during Halloween, they leave a bowl of candy outside their door with a note that says “don’t be greedy” (852). Later, Sedaris explains to us his bag of candy that is labeled “My candy. Keep out” (852). This is ironic because Tomkeys were kind enough to share with others even while they were gone but David could not.
I don't even know why. But I want all kinds of strangers to love me.” (213 Aliexe). This quote is telling the struggle of a band member. He is realizing the struggle or courage that it takes to make up a band.
"The Necklace." Explain why the ending of the story demonstrates irony. The ending of the story demonstrates irony. Because she clearly not happy with what she has in front of her. She wanted to go to the ball
In a society where songs with meaningless lyrics and repeated phrases gathers the most publicity, it is surprising to find songs that exhibit meaningful lyrics and thoughts. Unlike most hip-hop songs that contain useless repeated lyrics, Kanye West’s 2008 hit “Heartless” contains lyrics full of meaning. After producing this song, he was starting to approach the zenith of his career. This song became an instant hit for not only its soothing beats or sounds, but for its impactful lyrics that take the listener multiple attempts to really understand. This song tells the story of a tragic breakup between two individuals that cannot seem to get along.
Irving understands that love is more than a desire to be loved; it explains how love
Along with the lyrics, it shows that she might finally get her moment to show him that they belong together. Then Swift finds him at the dance and she shows him her paper that says “I love you” and he shows you his paper that says it too. The entire music video leads up to that point. This is one example of a rhetorical analysis on a music video, but every music video could be analyzed this way.
But the people highest up go the lowest self-esteem The prettiest people do the ugliest things (All Falls Down, Kanye West) To clarify, he speaks on the American dream, Kanye expresses, people only wants to be rich and wear materialistic goods. In addition, Kanye asserts there is more to life than just the American dream when relating to the people with the most power don’t necessarily know themselves. Along with
Love is a complicated thing. A wise man once said, ”There is great pain in love, for we all have our flaws, but it’s all worth it in the end; it’s worth the sacrifice.” We all have our little imperfections, and we have all suffered because of them, but at one point in your life, someone will see those flaws and find them beautiful. That’s what love is. This theme can be seen in the play Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand and in the poem, O’ If I were loved as I desire to be by Alfred lord Tennyson.
Hip-hop is an influential form of music that displays an artist’s honest and revealing story that many of the general public can relate to. One of the many songs that I can relate to is “Love Yourz” written by J Cole. The song talks about how Cole reflects on the most important things in life such as love and happiness. He realizes that the money and fame didn’t bring him the happiness he desired. To gain true happiness, he needed to appreciate himself and those that love him.
David Sedaris’s use of verbal irony achieves the greatest comic effect due to the way he uses it to be humorous and foolish. The irony is the greatest due to the contrast he creates with his words. On page 13, Sedaris states, “Her english was flawless. ‘I really, really hate you.’” (Sedaris 13).
Lee doesn’t show examples of irony throughout the majority of his poem. However when it comes to the last time he expresses it in fullforce. The speaker understands that he is lonely for he no longer has his father. He uses that loneliness and turns it around on himself: “What more could I, a young man, want” (Lee 23). The speaker is clearly upset about losing his father but uses irony to cover it up.
The irony is where Sedaris writes on his bag, “My candy. Keep out. ”His unwilling to share with people who are willing to share with everyone else is where the irony come into play. He even started eating the candy, even though it makes him sick. It is portrayed that Sedaris is somewhat biased and unwelcoming to people who are different from him.
Irony is a technique that involves surprising, interesting, or amusing contradictions or contrasts ( Glossary... Pg 1). The greatest example of irony happens when it turns out Armand is the one that comes from black heritage. He learns this when he “finds a letter from his mom to his father explaining how he is black” turning the main plot of this story around (Chopin... Pg 5)
Since the beginning of its creation in 1970 rap music has always been judged. People think of rap in a negative way because of the subjects it normally references. In some cases this is understandable but in most cases it is not. Rap just like any other form of music is a way to express thoughts and feelings that not everyone can relate to but this doesn’t mean individuals should be able to criticize the music and its listeners based off the lyrical content. Rap music has always been an intriguing topic in society.
All music has multiple functions. While music can preserve artistic value, it can also simultaneously tell a story, bring people together, historicize, heal, and rejuvenate. Most importantly, however, it sends a strong message and stimulates strong emotions to the listener. The song, “Where is the Love” by The Black Eyed Peas, performs all of these functions. The song symbolizes the sociological conflict theory.
