MLK Changes the World "The time is always right to do what's right" Martin Luther King Jr followed this advice as he was fighting for equal rights for African Americans around the world. Martin Luther King Jr positively benefitted modern society by writing a speech and changing the viewpoint on how people think about African American and using nonviolent disobedience to change his rights. Martin Luther King Jr has significantly benefitted modern society by changing the viewpoints on African Americans make them more equal to whites. In the month of April 1963 Martin Luther King Jr was arrested for conducting a civil rights march. The civil rights movement has been formed to ensure the rights of all people were equally protected by the law(Jakoubek
Dr. Martin Luther King’s involvement in the civil rights movement is based off of his beliefs of individual responsibility and justice versus injustice. Going off of his beliefs King would go on to encourage thousands of other African Americans to join him in the civil rights movement. Dr. King believed that every person had a voice that counted, and that the oppressed rely on that voice to free themselves. He believed that “Time itself is neutral”(King) saying that if the oppressed continue to stay quiet and conform with what society wants then nothing will change. If you look on those words and compare their usage from the 1960’s to the present you see that they are still relevant.
Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream…and this dream was to change how individuals treat each other. I will be explaining the injustice and protest, how were Judeo-Christian ethics applied, how was the injustice tied to the south, what are the four steps to King’s nonviolent campaign, how did the ideas flow from King’s Christian principles, how did King reconcile the “eye for an eye” Jewish principle with the Christian “love one another” principle, how does King’s ethical principles help defend against the charges that his protests were “untimely”, and pick a conflict in the world today and explain how King’s actions and principles might resolve the issue. The first topics are the injustice and protest, how were Judeo-Christian ethics applied,
When people hear freedom they think of lots of things. When I hear the word freedom I think of all the people that have fought for freedom. Martin Luther was a big part of winning freedom for so many people. Today the people who fight for our freedom are the soldiers and anyone who has ever been a soldier like the veterans. Freedom is something that I would not want to live without.
Martin Luther King Jr. most remembered and most respected act is his “I Have a Dream” speech. “On August 28, 1963, Martin Luther King Jr., delivered a speech to a massive group of civil rights marchers gathered around the Lincoln memorial in Washington DC. The March on Washington for jobs and freedom brought together the nation’s most prominent civil rights leaders, along with tens of thousands of marchers, to press the United States government for equality” (Archives.gov). King delivering that speech gives a whole new platform to not only Dr. King, but to all of the people that he talks about in his speech. The speech gives people a support of they are not alone is this long journey of recovery.
About two centuries ago, an American polymath Henry Thoreau protested the Mexican-American War by refusing to pay government taxes and with his innovative essay,'Civil Disobedience'. Years later, Mohandas Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King both followed his lead in employing nonviolence as a way to protest the injustices of their time. Because of their recognition as great men and outcome of these great men efforts, I believe that nonviolent protest is the only way we can achieve reform concerning today's issues. For many years, Mohandas Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King as well as Henry Thoreau have been revered by many. King won a Nobel Peace Prize for his peaceful imperviousness to the racial partiality in America.
The March that Changed the Nation I believe that our nation has finally come to understand what Martin Luther King Jr.s dream actually meant. However, because we understand this doesn’t mean we’ve all acted to make it become true. I believe that it’s hard for some people to forgive and adapt to the new ways of life. In Martin’s speech he says “One day all White and Black children will One day hold hands”.
“People try nonviolence for a week, and when it 'doesn't work' they go back to violence, which hasn't worked for centuries.” Theodore Roszak. This saying represents the change that happened in my point of view why nonviolent resistance is better and more effective than violent resistance. Actually, I had believed that the best way to defeat injustice and fight for rights was to use violent actions to prove the power of protesters. However, I started supporting nonviolent resistance, when, I studied Martin Luther King, who broke segregation law by practicing nonviolent actions using civil disobedience (non-violent protests and peace rallies), and listened to his inspirational speech “ I have a dream “.

Martin Luther King Jr. was born in January 15, 1929 in Atlanta Georgia, US. In his early years, King was whipped and beaten by his father who said that "he would make something of him even if he had to beat him to death." In 1954, when he was 25, King became a Christian Minister. He was a strong believer in loving god, yourself and your enemies. However, King still practised self-defence and even owned guns to defend himself.
“Violence only brings about more violence and hate,” Said Mahatma Gandhi, a civil rights leader. This bold quote still impacts modern day citizens’ today. Leadership can impact modern day people, and their thoughts and actions. And the citizens’ actions, and opinions can effect social change as well.
