Daley excelled in the rough politics in the notoriously corrupt Chicago. Would he have been as successful in another city or state? Perhaps not, but Daley was the perfect match for Chicago. He was a man whose less than pure ethics was understood by Chicagoans. Perhaps he wouldn 't have been as understood and accepted in another environment.
In my hometown of Waterdown Ontario, there is rarely a minute when the main downtown area is not buzzing with people. In my opinion, the downtown area of Waterdown is alive and lively. Whether people are shopping in one of the variety of stores, grabbing a bite to eat at one of the numerous restaurants or cafés or just driving through, downtown is easily the focal point of town and continues to increase in chaos as Waterdown continues to grow and suburbanize. In Waterdown, the downtown core is where almost every shop and store is located. If you want to do anything from buy groceries to take a pottery class, you do so downtown.

Period of the industrialization changed the course of history and was a turning point for the development of ethnic neighborhoods. Majority of people who were coming to Chicago were Europeans. Furthermore, Eastern Europeans, Germans, Italians, the Irish and Mexicans were among the most common immigrants who came to Chicago. These groups during the immigration deeply impacted the overall development of the neighborhoods and how Chicago is constructed today.
The Chicago Freedom Movement, was also known as the Chicago Open Housing Movement. It was led by Martin Luther King Jr., James Bevel and Al Raby. The movement involved large rallies, marches, and demands to the city of Chicago. The demands covered a vast range of areas. This areas consisted of open housing, quality education, transportation, job access, income and employment, health, criminal justice system, community development, tenant rights, and quality of life for blacks.

According to the Metro, Metro gained legislative authority in 2008 with Senate Bill 1422 (Ridley-Thomas) which authorized Metro and Caltrans to convert the HOV lanes (High Occupancy Vehicle) to HOT lanes (High Occupancy Toll) on Interstates I-110 and I-10. These lanes would be what is now called Metro ExpressLanes. The Metro ExpressLanes was a one year congestion demonstration program overseen by Metro, Caltrans, and several other mobility partners joined to develop multi-modal solutions to improve traffic flow and provide enhanced travel options on I-110 and I-10. The project was to reduce traffic and pollution, save traveling time, make our freeways safer and efficient. The project was funded a $210 million dollar grant from the Department of Transportation.
Chicago and other major cities remain in the news, as they continue to struggle with high murder rates. In fact, the city of Chicago has witnessed a 50 percent increase in its murder rate in only a one year period, and this area is not alone. Thankfully, cities across America and noticing violent and property crime rates remain at historic lows. The new adminstration has noted the increase in murder rates, but needs to also consider that other crimes on are the decline, which is always a good thing.
Erik Larson uses this simile and strong words that place a vivid image to further emphasize how the city continues to get dirtier as time goes by and more people move to Chicago. Larson wrote how as the city grew in population and in size the more dangerous and filthy the city became. The simile “like pus from a wound” paints a vivid image in the reader 's mind on how dirty the streets of Chicago are by using a simile that the readers would understand. Furthermore, Larson also uses strong words such as “oozed,” “muck,” and “swelled” to further paint an imagery of the contaminated streets and to show the continued growth of the filth in Chicago. This simile further helps Larson create a better image of how the city of Chicago has become contaminated.
