A clearer understanding of the importance of the SWOT analysis comes out strongly from the story of my friend Muchemi, who continues influencing my thinking orientation even today. SWOT is obviously an acronym whereby S refers to personal strengths whereas W represents weaknesses. On the other hand, O is about opportunities available whereas, T indicates threats that one is likely to encounter. As noted earlier, M-Pesa has made money transfer simple, convenient, safe, and fast. So, having been invited by Muchemi to help in a fundraising meant to meet some medical bill for a relative, it was not difficult to determine how to extend the much needed help. Muchemi is actually my childhood nickname, which I finally accepted without any apologies. However, I will narrate the story of how I acquired the nickname, whenever it is opportune,” volunteered Muchemi. This Muchemi nickname, had completely suppressed his real identity. Further, how could a man in his late forties have been so much at home using a nickname? Conversely, why had he not converted the same into an official name after all? One would have been forgiven for those imaginations. So, when an opportunity presented itself, Muchemi, gave a full account of how he acquired his nickname. Apparently, Muchemi was born in the rural countryside in what is now known as Nyeri County, Central Kenya. Surprisingly, Muchemi had already acquired an initial nickname from his peers, even before commencing school for early childhood education. The nickname emanated from his walking style. Unknown to Muchemi, he was flatfooted, unlike his playmates. The flat feet made him trample the ground like an elephant does. Though the walking style depicted great confidence, the same earned Muchemi the first nickname. His playmates nicknamed him Gikubia.
