After ralph and piggy journey to the other tribe they are met by hostile savages who wouldn't listen to reason. “ Jack backed against the tribe and they were a solid mass of menace. ”(pg.180). The author shows how jack now has complete control of the boys and how they are backing him up and wont go with the side of reason. At this point in the book Jacks power is at its height and he has made all the boys sever their own ties to being civilized.”
All of the children soon begin to “lose their minds,” but the debate is: are the actions of the boys based off of their environment, or biological factors? The behaviors of the boys are directly related to biological factors, because of past experiences, lack of resources, and brain development. First and foremost, the behaviors of each boy may be directly related to biological factors, because of past experiences. It is a part of life that there are superior moments, and bad moments as well. However, in most cases the bad moments are what shape us as humans today.
Anxieties are a big factor in the changing behavior between the young boys, they're constantly worrying about what could go wrong. Fear is also something that needs to be overcome. In Lord of the Flies there is a good example of the boys overtaking their fear of not being able to escape. The boys hurt and chase Piggy to take his glasses and try to create a fire so that they can get the attention of a boat in the distance.
Jack and Ralph look at and deal with this issue in different ways and because of other events, a drift is created between the two of them. The whole group of boys split and most join Jack’s tribe because he promises them a feast, and drives fear out of their hearts by having everyone do the tribal dance. This dance is a crucial event in the novel and it has a lot of significance. During this dance, the actual bloodthirsty character of the boys are shown. The first time they perform this dance, a young boy is pretending to be a pig, and he is badly beat up because everyone loses self-control and starts to go into attacking mode.
This shows how, even at their best, the group still falls prey to peer pressure quickly and ruthlessly. The second half of the novel explores this theme more explicitly. With Jack Merridew taking charge, the boys succumb to fear and allow themselves to act wildly, egging each other on in their savagery. Under his guidance, the boys become less of individuals and more of a pack.
Jack, the leader of the hunting group, gets very violent later in the story and inspires other hunters to be like him. This causes many problems for the boys later in the novel. Jack is responsible for the demise of civilization on the island because Jack was obsessed with hunting and got very violent, he had his own group of hunters that could help him gain more power
Early in the novel, Jack is already showing signs of flawed human instinct. The flawed nature of humans lies within every single boy on the island, although it takes longer for those flaws to be revealed in some than in others. Jack is essentially the first domino to fall, as many more will soon follow suit. Ideally, Jack allows his instincts to control him rather than him take control of his instincts. (S)It is ironic that the boys refer to themselves as not being savage because,
The “dance” that Jack’s tribe performs seems to correspond directly with a loss of morality. When Simon wandered into the feast when it was dark, they performed the dance and killed him without considering that he wasn’t a beast. None of the boys expressed very much regret after they realized what they had truly done. By the end of the novel, most of the boys had dropped down to the first stage of moral development, where the “focused on satisfying personal needs”
As Jack’s moral character deteriorates, it brings his savagery to the surface, allowing the remnants of civilization to be forgotten. In the beginning of the novel, a group of young boys find themselves alone, without any adults, on an island after
Jack has finally started his own tribe, he retaliates against jack this piece of evidence says “ He began to pound the mouth below him, using his clenchedfist as a hammer ; he hit with more and more passionate hysteria as the face became slippery.” (167). This shows that even though Ralph knows that the boys are the only ones on the island he still hits the person very hard until they start to bleed. This means that the boys are trying to fight and raid each other for some fire and Piggy’s glasses, when they said they’d give them fire if they would’ve just asked for it. Throughout the story you can see the boys transform from kids to savages, this piece of evidence shows how savage kids twelve and under can get when they want to survive.
As time wears on, the boys become increasingly bestial and savage, and are led by Jack to lash out against the remaining civilized group, led by Ralph. Through the actions he performs throughout this novel, it is apparent that Jack is an arrogant tyrant because he is egotistical
The boys true colors in a way come out slowly but surely, yes the environment is not helpful but William Golding is try to show you men are capable of horrific things. In the Lord of the Flies William Golding throughout the book is trying to show you that society should recognize man is evil. Body Paragraph #1: These boys are full of fear they 're human it 's expected but not all the fear is about being scared of the island. In the middle of the book Simon starts making the other boys think about who the real beast it and what they have become he says “Maybe there is a beast... maybe it 's only us.”
Should the boys’ savage and immoral behavior be blamed on the situation/environment or on the biological factors? I think that the boys’ savage and immoral behavior should be blamed on biological factors. Your decisions and behavior reflects your brain and your biological factors. In the novel, “Lord of the Flies”, by William Golding, he writes about characters who are lost on an island after their plane crashed.
Jack proposes that he forms his own tribe.. Within this rebel tribe he suggests that they act only as savages. The temptation to hunt won many of the boys over in favor of orderly society as suggested by Ralph. The two groups of boys reach the culmination of the conflict when logic battles savagery; “ ‘Which is
Humans are complex creatures. Understanding human nature is difficult, but the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding helps to show what true human nature looks like. Humans are inherently evil, but that evil is hidden by societal dictates. Throughout the novel, the human societal mask is stripped away and true human nature can be seen. Society enforces rules and trends that people feel they must follow.
