From ancient times to the present day, human has always had a strong attachment to nature. But nowadays, with the development of technology, which also means human’s life is more and more convenient, people gradually forget their responsibilities to the environment.
Environment is the surroundings, conditions in which a person, animal or plant lives and operates or we can also regard it as “home” for every creature. However, in contrast with what a person should do to his house, human kind treats badly to nature. Lots of organizations that specialize in environment such as: Global Environmental Facilities, The global Environment Information Centre, Greenpeace Organization, etc. have been founded. With the statistics and factual information from these unions, people can be constantly updated and take actions to improve environmental problems as soon as possible. There are also many campaigns held to advance human’s awareness about the importance of nature and how to protect the environment. For example, the “Get up! Action for Australia”- a campaign to stop climate change with the participation of over 600.000 people got 120000 signatures to petition for the solutions to this difficulty, which makes the society all over the world support wholeheartedly. And in a constant effort, governmental institutions have stopped several cases relevant to illegal endangered species trade. Besides, there are stills a lot of ways to overcome environmental problems. People are usually encouraged to commute by biking, walking or public transportation to fight global warning, but if they must own a motor vehicle, consider trading in their gas guzzle for a fuel efficient hybrid of better yet-go electric. The citizens in many countries are as well more responsible to keep the surroundings clean: trash on the rivers gradually disappears or when going on streets, you will no longer see indiscriminate waste. Natural resources such as: wind, solar power, water, etc. are also in use, which helps release pollution level considerably and save a large mount of money. Man and nature has always had an imbalanced relationship. Since the dawn of mankind, humans depended on the unpredictable being that is nature in order to survive. Gradually, however, the environment has been manipulated by people, to fit their needs for survival and personal satisfaction. Presently, the relationship between man and nature has been drifting further apart with a growing disconnection between the two, as shown in Richard Louv’s Last Child in the Woods.
Deforestation is still an unbeleafable issue even to this day. With our trees being cut down to make supplies and furniture, we struggle with keeping our ratio of trees being destroyed and trees being planted equal. It seems like that was also the case in the past. There was a significant amount of trees being cut down in 1920, the land looking much more barren than it did in 1650 (Document A, map). These trees, some of them taking more than three thousand years to rise tall, are being cut down.
The inhabitants right to an “environment that is not harmful to their health and well-being” and the right to “ecologically sustainable development” is violated. Environmental ethics, on the other hand, is the area of applied ethics that discusses, reflects and reasons on normative measures (values, rules, norms, criteria) for dealing with non-human natural entities in a responsible way (Karafyllis 2013, p.292). The government has passed many conservation policies to protect animals, eco-systems, plants and trees itself and indigenous people’s way of life, but many of these policies get overlooked and require a lot of extra work. How it affects the rest of the world- This action is permanent, and all of the world is targeted as a potential setting for deforestation. It is predicted that the continuing action may result in very few rainforest across the entire globe. Cutting trees can also be harmful to our ozone layer, which protects earth from dangerous radiation.
Many people who go into nature always see it as something beautiful and aesthetic, but they never see the other side to nature. Humankind’s connection with nature isn’t a real one. They always look at the bright side of nature but are blind to the true dark side of nature. JB MacKinnon’s article “False Idyll” (2012), reveals that nature is not just flowers in a field but can also be the survival of the fittest. He backs up his claim by talking about nature through anecdotes and expert’s research.
During school, we 've always been taught a little about pollution, how to recycle and even practiced a few things that will help improve this issue. This has been an ongoing issue for years and it can make some feel like what 's the use of trying to make a change now. Don 't get me wrong, things have been done, but more could be done as well. I myself could make a few changes too. If we really researched the damage that these things are doing to our precious earth we would want to do more.

Jane Goodall, a primatologist, ethologist, and anthropologist, explains that the greatest risk to our future is lacking enthusiasm and concern about its outcome. Considering Goodall is extremely environmentally keen, it is more than likely she is emphasizing this towards the future of the entire ecosystem, including plants and animals, rather than only the future of the human race. She explains that if the human race falls to a deficiency of caring about our environment, it can and will lead to a vast threat to the future of the world’s ecosystem. Often humans forget about the importance of the ecosystem and instead we become caught up in ourselves and our own individual needs. Goodall is stressing that if these egotistical human acts continue to occur, the future of our ecosystem is in jeopardy.
If art and literature, mathematics, science, economics, statistics, history and religion is taught, why not teach the fundamental importance of ecological conservation? “Students are like sponges and observe information well if they learn about it starting at their early childhood education and throughout their school years. We should value nature and its animals much more (Becker, 1971). In today’s world we have what Becker calls a “power-saw mentality” (Becker, 1971, p. 114). Instead we’re greedy with what nature has to offer us. “Man takes what nature offers us, but usually only what he needs” (Becker, 1971, p. 114). There is a psychological difference in today’s world of what we enjoy out of nature (Becker, 1971).
Therefore, we need to think about tomorrow with respect to every action that we take in the environment and in this case we can say that sustainable development requires slower population growth. With this in mind, we need to be educated through our cultures about the impact we caused to the environment as we continue to reproduce. The challenge of environmental ethics has led to the attempt to apply traditional ethical theories, including consequentialism, deontology, and virtue ethics, to support contemporary environmental concerns; the preservation of biodiversity as an ethical goal; the broader concerns of some thinkers with wilderness, the built environment and the politics of poverty; the ethics of sustainability and climate change, and some directions for possible future developments of the discipline [ CITATION And15 \l 1033 ]. With this multi-dimensional approach one can see that it is more of a cultural issue to think of it from its origin.
We need people to wake up and realize what is happening. We need people to take action and help put an end to deforestation
