The city of Las Vegas has changed rapidly from becoming a beautiful city to a violent place to live in. The city has seemed a rise in homicides as well in the last few years. The strong presences of these gangs are taking innocent lives and making the community a harder place to raise a family in. Many of the gangs in Vegas account for most the drug trade, as well as the staggering homicide rate. The gang problem is not only a problem in Las Vegas, but it is all over the world. Gang violence is a problem in every major United States city including Chicago, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. Las Vegas Metro Police Department (LVMPD) has implicated many programs to fight the increasing gang issue across the valley, from bringing back the gang unit to having more police officers patrol the known gang spots. These programs were implicated to stop the criminal gangs that are looking to build their territory in Nevada. The three criminal gangs that are mainly affiliated with Nevada are the Gersons’, the Crips, and the Playboys.
overing an area of almost eight square miles. The area boasts one of the most densely populated neighborhoods with approximately thirty four thousand persons per square mile. During the 1980’s, the Rampart area saw astronomical increases in violent crimes and street gangs trafficking in narcotics controlled the area. In an effort to combat this violence the LAPD established an anti-gang unit known as CRASH, “Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums”. The unit was given wide ranging discretion in their crime fighting approach. This free lancing crime fighting approach by CRASH was very successful and gang related crimes in the Rampart area fell drastically. The LAPD was pleased with this result. Prohibition had a major impact throughout the United States. The Volstead Act banned almost all forms of alcohol from the the United States. Despite this attempt to eradicate alcohol, alcohol entered the country illegally. This illegal activity led to a major increase in gang violence especially in urban areas. Gang violence in Chicago was particularly significant during Prohibition. The gang violence in Chicago was led by none other than the notorious mobster, Al Capone. Capone was not alone, however, in bringing gang violence to Chicago. Many other mobsters, hitmen, policeman and politicians joined with Capone in activities that led to the deterioration of the rule of law in Chicago. The conditions of Chicago during Prohibition made gang violence especially severe.
The first real study of social disorganization happened during the 1800’s in France by two men, Adolph Quetelet and Andre-Michel Guerry. They studied social disorganization by taking the recently released criminal records and mapping them. They were able to show that crime is related to places. After Adolph and Andre Michel came Robert Parks and Ernest Burgess who studied the similarities between ecology and urban social structures. Parks and Burgess after seeing how time played a role in how cities are affected, created a theory called the Concentric Zone theory. This theory correlated ecology means of invasion, dominance, and succession and combined it to cities. After Parks and Burgess, two men by the names of Shaw and McKay took up this theory and applied it social disorganization and its effects on delinquents.
There are many different phenomenons that could be explained by sociological theories. Sociology studies these occurrences to explain why people do the things they do. Crimes rates can be defined by symbolic interactionism, functionalist theory and conflict theory.
In Chicago, and all over the nation, the effects of gang activity have been displayed, specifically in low income and poverty torn communities. Poverty is measured depending on a family’s annual income and determining if the amount falls below the poverty threshold for the family’s size. If the annual income does fall below the threshold, then the family and every individual in it is considered to be in poverty. Gang activity is more visible in the areas specifically in major cities similar to Chicago where poverty is a commonality in communities. although gangs might add structure in order where the government fails to do so in the projects and and similar low income communities the negative effects such as the distribution of drugs, violence,

Effective May 1, 2016, all members of the gang fighting unit must abide by the following policy. When speaking with juveniles under the age of 18, you must read their rights to them in a way that they fully understand, if there are any questions or concerns, you must explain everything to them until it is comprehended. After the initial requirements are done, a parent (guardian), attorney or probation officer must be present before any questioning is done. Even if the juvenile
The idea of a biker gang in the 21st century seems insane. How are there “turf” wars? Hasn’t all of the turf in the USA been divided, divvied, and assigned? Not the case, according to the article America’s Biker Gangs published by TheWeek.com. The article, published in June of 2015, details the history, growth, and continued issues associated with the deadly gangs in the US. Groups of men getting together to ride their motorcycles for pleasure or relaxation is the furthest thing from what the actual groups do. Based on the information provided in the article, there seems to be better ways of dealing with these gangs
