Document Based Assignment 2 On September 11, 2001 terrorists attacked our country causing one of the most devastating events in United States history. Islamic extremists seized control of four airplanes, crashing two of them into the Twin Towers, one into the Pentagon, and the last in Pennsylvania. Overall they killed 3,000 people and another 6,000 were terribly injured.9/11 is a day the U.S. will never forget, paying respect every year to all those who sadly died. Although David Headley was of the Pakistani origin, he was hired as an informant under the Drug Enforcement Association in the United States . Both United States and Pakistan government’s did not share their leads and suspicions about Headley prior to the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Although Headley was an informant for the Drug Enforcement Administration he acquired the potential to be a threat towards the United States and the CIA failed to pursue his repetitive warnings over the course of seven years which makes them responsible for Headley’s attacks.

Meanwhile, another major event that happened during this time period, was the Vietnam War. America went to war with the Communist North Vietnam to prevent their takeover of South Vietnam (Ross 1). The Taliban was asked to hand over Bin Laden because the terrorist organization would then be unable to operate without its leader, but they refused to cooperate.
