When I first stumbled upon this scholarship from the American Legion, I knew right away that I wanted to apply for it because of the similarities between what the American Legion and what I both stand for. I few words that I would use to describe the American Legion and myself would be, service, integrity, and hard work. These are a few things that I take very seriously and attempt to involve in my life everyday. I pride myself on these high character traits and try to use them in my community, during sporting events, at home, and at my school. I also implement these traits while fulfilling my civic duties by doing service around my community. Some of these services involve, the 20 hours of service I am required to do each year to graduate
Imagine being stuck with a deadlock job and having to go to work every day for 9 hours with extra hours of commuting on top of it all. Call me crazy, but I have never met anyone who wants that for their career. Life is too short to be unhappy with your job occupation, this is why choosing a career is one of the most significant decisions that a person makes in their life. Loving what you do for a career makes it as if it's not a job, but rather something you look forward to every day while bringing you happiness. Sports for me has always been something that brings me joy, especially when it involves professional athletes, traveling, and handling business/legal deals. As sports have developed into a multi-million dollar industry, there has been a huge increase in the number of people desiring to represent professional athletes. After reading articles and conducting an interview with one of the best sports agents in
I have always loved animals and working with them, but I would like to be able to help them when they are sick or injured. Although I love almost every animal, my goal would be to become an Equine Veterinarian. I have grown up loving horses as my mom would say, "When you were little you always wanted to be around horses, and when you couldn't be you were reading about them" (Rogers,D). My interest in becoming a Veterinarian really came full circle when I was asked to care for and bandage my neighbor's horse who had wounded her leg shortly before they planned to go on vacation in Mexico. It was my first real experience caring for a horse who had a serious injury, and watching her heal and being a part of that was eye opening. That experience along with others has driven me to want to be able to do more for animals specifically horses when they are sick or injured.
At states I won three medals: NC DECA Certification award for passing the written exam, NC DECA Series Event Finalist Winner, and NC DECA State Finalist. I was six in my category and I almost made it to nationals but I had to be in the top five to go. I was so happy that I had actually accomplished something on my own. I didn 't even care that I didn 't get to go to nationals.
Around the dinner table and in many restaurants, beef is being consumed on a daily basis. Much of the consumption of meat is dependent on the supply and quality that the farmers in the beef industry supply. There are many different breeds of beef cows that are raised and bred with the purpose of providing meat for the consumer. Angus beef, one of the oldest breeds of beef cattle, has a unique history and it is primarily bred and raised for its tender marbleized meat.
Walking through the woods on a peaceful, fall day, I stumble onto a herd of cotton tails. BANG! THUD! Dinner is served. Hunting has been argued to not be the best method practiced for controlling whitetail deer populations. Instead, different amicable ways of controlling the whitetail deer population have been recently exercised throughout several states, including Michigan. However, I believe that hunting remains the best way to control the deer population, and that the tranquil parties are camouflaging the truth from us.
Walking down through the tunnel of the Hershey Arena has been one of my most decorated moments in my high school career. Last March I had the amazing opportunity of reaching the State Tournament for wrestling. Not only was it the first time I have reached the state tournament, but also Scranton Prep’s first wrestler.
If I have to choose a favorite sport it would have to be football. Football is physical hard-hitting contact sport that is full of excitement rooting for my home team the New York Jets. Back in 1997 is where I developed a full interest; watching and playing football at a young age. I have played fullback and linebacker both positions took a lot of hard work, conditioning, and practice to execute my performance on the field.
In Take in the State Fair, by Garrison Keillor which tells why we’re going to the state fair. When the state fair occurs that’s where we’re going to have a day out to eat, and to go on rides. We’re going to the state fair for countless issues, except I understand why we’re going to the state fair happens to be for the experiences, we’re going to socialize, and we’re going to watch the other person’s actions.
The one extracurricular activity that has become a main priority in my life is my horses and barrel racing. Riding horses has become a stress reliever and a favorite pass time. It has become not only a sport, but a lifestyle. I began riding when I was only three years old. My mother bought me my very first pony and taught me how to ride. Ever since that day, and many, many horses later, I have been passionate about horses. I began going to local fun shows, where I would show in mainly pleasure classes. It gave me a great foundation of how to ride a horse correctly. I won many awards on my pleasure horse and really enjoyed doing it, but as I got older, I began to have a need for speed. With this being said, I started entering the speed classes. My
“OUR HORSES ARE OUR TEAMMATES, OUR SOUL MATES. IT’S A TEAM EFFORT. YOU CAN’T DO IT WITHOUT SO MANY PEOPLE BEHIND YOU.” -Lisa Lockhart. This saying is so true in the sport of rodeo, you can not do it without your family behind you or the horses that you love and care about with you.
My parents took care of my horses for me. They cleaned stalls, fed them day and night, and packed the trailer for each rodeo. As the years went on I grew up and those roles became my own. I do everything on my own now and realize that my horses are my responsibility. I have learned the importance of priorities. At my school games are very important and so is school spirit. I contributed
The activity I enjoy outside of my classes is Lacrosse. I started playing Lacrosse in third grade by joining the Farmington Youth Lacrosse team. Lacrosse is something I care about because it is something I am good at and enjoy playing. I also like being on a lacrosse team because it helps me work together with other people and collaborate on group projects in school. What keeps me playing lacrosse is there is always something you can do better and trying to be the best you can be is fun and challenging. Some aspects of lacrosse that are specifically satisfying are scoring goals, successfully dodging opponents, and of course winning games. A few things that I find are exciting are faceoffs and when everyone tries to get the ball if it falls
One of the most significant activities in my life would have to be soccer ever since I got a hold of the ball in 10th grade, it sparked my interest and a fire was ignited. It simply stared with a few friends asking me to join them then slowly progressed into everyday after school I would go outside to kick around the ball, I never really knew it was for me until I started getting more into it, soccer became my outlet more like an escape for me, it was somewhere I could go when I needed to be alone just the ball and I. Honestly, I never knew that it would affect me in the way it has, it started out as a just for fun kind of thing, then it escalated into actually playing games, turning more into a passion and I could actually see myself in the
It all began when I was 4 years old, I got my very own horse. Ever sense I was born, my parents have owned horses. I had asked all my relatives for my birthday to give me money so I could save up to get a horse. I had already been saving up by collecting cans and bringing them in to get money. The day of my birthday, I
