Hi Matt, this is Logan Sanders. After completing the preliminary Residential Assistant training I was not placed in a position. However, I was told by Shannon Jolley that "you are the very first person on our alternates’ list and will likely be awarded a position, even in the next few weeks". I received this email in early March, and understand that it I was not guaranteed a position. I began college in 2014 at the age of 58 years-old to change my area of employment and do something that is far more interesting to me, working within the social services field. I realize the fact I was brought up by two dysfunctional, abusive parents in a chaotic home lead me to search out that same type of familiar relationship when I left home at the age of seventeen. In short, I married a domestic violence abuser and alcoholic when I was 19 years-old and had 5 children. Ten years into the marriage, when I had finally reached the end of my rope, a local police officer helped me to obtain a Protection from Abuse order and removed my husband from the home. The following,is an article written by Jerry Brindley when she was a Senior Aide in Decatur: Becoming a Senior Aide was a big step in my life as far as taking care of the elderly and seeing to their needs. I have had years of experience from my parents-in-law and our neighbors. But to actually go into a home and help someone I have never known was and is totally different.
Physical Therapy Assistant is an interesting field; it is a job that helps individuals in need. I interviewed Lucero because she is currently working in the same field that I see myself working in the future. The interview took place on November 29th; it lasted an hour and a half. The interview was about me trying to understand more about my future life as a physical therapist assistant. The purpose of this interview was for me to envision if this is the profession that I want for myself, in the future.
My quote is by Margaret Mead, which states the following: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has”. I choose this particular quote because, I feel that it is up to everybody to have an impact on how the world can change, in order to be a better place to live. People working together can get a lot accomplish, whereas people not working together cannot accomplish a lot.

This year, I experienced both a personal and academic obstacle that correlate with one another. In January, I started the year long Medical Assisting program at my school. Prior to beginning this program, I was so excited to be getting a medically centered education, and learning about the field I wanted to expand my career in. After entering the program and learning that there is so much more to medicine than just taking care of patients, I began to lose my interest. This was shocking to me since, my whole life up until this year, I believed I was going to become an amazing medical doctor.
During this time, I noticed the difference in care provided between the doctor and the nurse. The nurse offered a more trusting relationship, emphasized the use of holistic care, and provided empathy, which was much appreciated. Thereafter, I began volunteering at Lowell General Hospital and experienced my own interpersonal relationships with the outpatients. I felt truly satisfied during my time there, as I was able to apply my values and experience the gratitude and warmth that radiated from each patient that I helped. Therefore, I chose to pursue a career in nursing, as it is similarly based on my own beliefs and makes me feel like I make a difference in the lives of every person that
Growing up with mental illness they called me crazy, annoying, and angry. They looked at me differently. They’d even talk about it amongst themselves, but never offered guidance. That’s the problem with society these days. Everyone loves a party, but no one wants to clean up the mess.
I cannot express how much I have learned, and how much I have grown professionally as well as personally. My courage stems from the support of you all. Paragraph 1: I am intrinsically motivated to (extend or persist in) my social work education due to my difficult upbringing and my moral obligation to my community. In my (early days), I saw a heavy deal of instability. While my parents were hardworking, they often were unable to manage their finances. Our household was (driven) from our household many times due to eviction and lived in hotels or temporarily settled with relatives. I was uprooted repeated and this directly affected my academic performance, my social skills, and my ability to trust others.
I was a hard child, even I could see that. Hospital bills rained down on us with totals my family could hardly afford. I had a mental illness that no one had ever, ever seen before. It caused pain in my nightmares, being tortured over and over again but never having the ability to die. There was a positive though, I knew when something was about to happen seconds before it did, it was like I was the oracle.
