Standardized tests are very common in today’s modern society. They are used as a tool to measure a person’s performance and indicate how their estimated performance will be in a college class. Every year hundreds of students take the ACT or SAT in order to get accepted into their college of choice and to receive scholarships, but they fail to see the problems with these standardized tests. As more and more people take these tests, the national average score falls causing doubt in the extremely important system. This is leading people to question whether or not the ACT and SATs are accomplishing what they were created to do.
Do you struggle with taking tests? Do you wish that you never had a take a test again, well so do I? Standardized testing is a topic that many people would argue. Some people believe that all kids should be required to take these tests and that standardized testing is a good thing, but others argue that it puts too much pressure on kids. I believe that it puts too much stress on kids and it doesn’t show their full potential.
Standardized testing has become a very controversial topic amongst the nation. There are two sides, one that agrees that these tests are doing well for students and school officials, and another that argues that these tests are hurting the students taking them and should be put to a stop. Norman R. Augustine wrote an article for the need of standardized testing, and Jessie B. Ramey States the ways that the tests are impairing the learning capability of the students. Norman uses three arguments that people opposing the standardized test would most often use. The first is that these test encourages the teachers just to “teach the test”, but he ensures that, this is exactly what the teachers should be doing.
SATS and ACTS have been used for numerous years as a way to gauge a student’s academic success while in college. Students have the choice which test they would prefer to take and most colleges do not prefer one test over the other. There are a few key differences between the SAT and ACT, which may make one test more suitable than the other for those taking the tests. Many studies have proven that the SAT and ACT are not the best judge of future success, and that colleges should focus their applications more on past grades and accomplishments to decide which students should be accepted to their university. SATs and ACTs are not an effective measure of college readiness and future academic success.
Have you ever noticed that homework is slowly taking over students’ lives? Homework should be eliminated from schools. However, doing homework, students receive higher test scores. But, what happens when homework has a negative effect on students? For instance, Clifton Parker wrote about how Denise Pope, a senior lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Education and some of her colleagues did a survey that associated with 4,317 students from 10 high schools in California.
As a student in high school did you ever feel like the standardized test are helping you or making you get in to a better college? Have you ever thought about how many hours students and teachers spend preparing for the standardized test? Many hours and studying are being put into those test but are they really effective and are the test doing the students good in life? Standardized tests are really just to effective, teachers and students spend too much time on them and it’s not doing the students any good, and even it’s not doing the teachers any good. Standardized tests in schools today in Ohio should be stopped because they are causing for teachers to be evaluated by the test results of how the students do on the tests, they are having the students more stressed about school and do they benefit you in colleges and university and do they really look at how well students do on them test.

I agree with Rick Shenkman’s opinion about ignorant voters nowadays. Even though our generations receive more education than people did in the past, those knowledge only lasts until the end of an exam or quiz. For students, most of them couldn’t care less about subjects or matters that are not included in their future careers or majors. As the generation is falling deeper into an endless hole of ignorance, they realize they also have to perform the duties of an American citizen, voting. They rush through news and articles, rely on others’ comments to formulate their own opinions without having a strong foundation on political parties and ideologies; thus making false accusations and decisions.
There are many reasons they could be low. Some people are not good test takers because of anxiety. The person with high anxiety might be the smartest kid in the class, but he does not do well on test because he or she gets worked up and can 't think correctly when it comes to tests. Other students might not do well on tests because they have to study for their grades. Some students are able to get A’s without putting much effort into it.
This bill should not have passed, the dropout rate had already dropped from 44 percent to 1 percent. The bill sends the wrong message even though it gives the parents the freedom to decide if their child should go to school or not. This is the only upside of the bill but if the parents dropped out then they more than likely won’t care if their own child drops out. All the bill is doing is getting rid of the unruly students and that’s not how to solve this problem(Concord). If the states established the dropout age of 18 then more students would graduate and hopefully move on to get a degree.
