It can be seen in every corner of our nation. However, it is not impossible to fix. Despite how rampant it is, there are glimpses of hope dotted around the nation. Some cities have done things right, while other cities have done things completely wrong. Some cities have made more progress in reducing homelessness by creating more housing availability, strategically planning their actions, and bringing multiple groups of people together to work towards the cause.

As homelessness becomes a normalcy in the United States, there is less attention focused on the issue of child and family homelessness. As more families fall into financial hardships, affordable housing has become less attainable. Between 1981 and 1986, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development was forced to reduce their budget from $33 billion to less than $10 billion. This represented an extreme decrease in the building and maintenance of housing, imposing more difficulties on hopeful individuals in need of affordable housing.
It’s been one day with Donald Trump as the United States President Elect and the amount of fear flowing through our collective hearts is sickening. No human should have to fear for their life, but Americans especially should not have to fear. Our forefathers created a nation in order that we would not have to fear. But think of all those who have feared for their lives in America, all of the minorities in race, sexuality, and belief- all of those people who are in a nation that preaches protection and equality.
Homelessness is not a new problem and for years the government has made efforts towards decreasing the rate of homelessness in America. During the 1980’s, the voices of the homeless were finally heard. In 1987, The McKinney Homeless Assistance Act of 1987 was created.

(Mclean, 2015) California is the wealthiest state in the country but ranked third worst in the extent of homelessness, the second worst in policy, and in the lower half of the US in terms of risk and wellbeing, making it the third worst US state for child homelessness overall. (Mclean, 2015) Rent is increasing as income is decreasing or staying the same.

Youth Homelessness in America Every year, millions of people are experiencing some form of homelessness in the United States alone. Of those people who are experiencing homelessness, a large proportion of them is under the age of 24. Data has found that there are over 550,000 youth have experienced homelessness for more than a week over the course of a year (“Youth and Young Adults,” 2018). In many cases, youth homelessness can be prevented, but the lack of resources and services available to youth is limited. As a result, the issue continues to grow and affect more and more youth have to experience homelessness.
There are over 600,000 homeless people in America today. This has become a big issue over time that needs attention. No one likes to see people in need, struggling to make a living. Homelessness in America is constantly being talked about, but no one makes a move to help all of those people who need it. The social issue that I picked is homelessness. Homelessness is a real issue, even if we don’t always see it. Homelessness doesn’t just mean you don’t have a roof over your head, it means you don’t have food, a good education, a healthy lifestyle, or a warm place to sleep every night. Some people don’t think very highly about homeless people, they think that it's their fault that they are where they are in life. Homelessness is going to end up becoming a bigger problem.

There are many aspects must which should be considered in the argument of whether we, the American people and higher class, should help them or not; such as the ethical values of the situation from both the poor and those involved in helping, the cultural and social causes, and effects on their lives.
