Now he wants to avoid large battles that put his army at risk. Bob’s army is now defensive which he will try to tire them out and then go in and defeat and defeat the British. The British also had a new strategy, they are going to take over the Hudson valley. “Okay we need to figure out a way to get into the Hudson valley” said a British troop. “Lets meet up in Albany, New York, where you can lead your troops south and I will lead mine north”. On June 1777 General Howe left with 8,000 troops to attack. “I'm so hungry and I need water”. Most of the troops were really hungry from the trip they took south. From there they met with General Howe and marched north from New York city. But their idea was a terrible Idea, the had to walk 20 miles through the wilderness, had to build bridges, had to cut down trees, and layout there right throughout the 20 miles. There were slowed down with 600 wagons and 30 of them were with the troops belongings. Also General Howe led his troops to Philadelphia, where he wanted to lead Washington into a big

The two main things that the congress in the Second Continental Congress began to work on was to supply an army as well as raise them, and to explore any types of reconciliation that could be made with the British. After congress made the army, there was a horrible deadly battle that took place, and it was known as one of the worst of the entire Revolution. The commander from Britain who was Gage, received many troops as backup and that included some very well-known generals, and also new orders to battle the Massachusetts rebels. After the British closed off the peninsula in the battle against the Americans, Howe wanted to do a very courageous attack. He wanted to send over two thousand soldiers across waters.
5 days later the Long Island battle was lost by the Continental Army. The continental army wasn’t ready for
The battle began on December 25, 1776, and ended on December 26, 1776. General Washington and his troops traveled through the snow and icy waters. They didn’t have the right clothes and the soldiers didn’t have any shoes. General Cadwalader planned a diversionary attack from the south. The night before of the attack, the Hessians leader, Rahl was eating dinner and somebody brought information that Americans were coming.
This battle took place after a demoralizing defeat at Long island. George Washington was forced to retreat all the way across New Jersey back in Pennsylvania. Due to the cold and harsh winter and the defeats in the previous wars, the Continental Army was one the verge of abandoning the rebellion act. Therefore George Washington needed to find something to build up the spirit in his troops. As such he then decides to cross back over the Delaware River and attack the Hessians (German hired troops) at Trenton, New Jersey.
In the Battle of Bunker Hill, even though the Colonists soldiers retreated in defeat it had it’s great effect on the British. This battle is the first and one of the most important battles during the Revolutionary war. The Revolutionary war was the war between the patriots and the British who both wanted America. The two Major Generals in this particular battle name’s were General Howe who fought for the Colonists and General Artemus Ward who of course commanded the British. But though the battle is named ‘The Battle of Bunker Hill’, it was actually fought at the base of Breed’s Hill.
The boat rocked and bounced against the thick, chunky ice. George Washington and his 2,400 troops were stealthily traveling to Trenton to pull a surprise attack on the Hessian soldiers there. George Washington 's morale-boosting voice rang out against the stillness of the night, “I believe and declare my military strategy will win over the Hessians!” The hundreds of boats all let out cheers and shouts echoing across the frozen river.
There were farms and small stores in the area, but there was not enough food to feed all of the soldiers and many became desperate and attempted to steal food from the farmers and food stores. Washington ended up writing to Congress, saying subsistence in the best manner they can ... “I am now convinced, beyond a doubt that unless some great and capital change suddenly takes place… this army must inevitably be reduced to one or other of these three things. Starve, dissolve, or disperse, in order to obtain …” After letting Congress know this, General Washington received a message saying a large British group of troops was nearby (Allen 27).
Fischer states that the remaining soldiers were made up of groups of state militias. As the Americans are becoming more and more discouraged, Thomas Paine writes another article called “The American Crisis”. Fischer claims that this article put the spirit back into many Americans and some went up in arms once again. As the cold winter months approached, Washington had a plan. On Christmas night, December 25, 1776; Washington would move his troops across the Delaware River.
The soldiers were inadequately trained and lacked ammunition, food, and other provisions. They sometimes even went without clothing and went barefoot in the winter. However, General Washington was able to give them direction and encourage them to persevere. The common soldier would prove important.
The Battle of Saratoga in September and October of 1777 is the turning point of the Revolutionary War because the French joined with allies, British troops surrendered their arms, and the Patriots had crucial victories.
