Into The Wild is a story, by Jon Krakauer, about a man named Chris McCandless aka Alexander Supertramp, and his journey to the Alaskan frontier and the people he had met on the way over there. Chris was a very well educated and simple man, however, due to his troubled relationships with his parents and the lifestyle that he was given growing up, he had decided to take matters into his own hands begin a treacherous journey all the way to the Alaskan frontier. McCandless dropped everything, left his apartment, no note, nothing. Some may think, good for McCandless, he is carrying out his own happiness, or he is man enough to do things on his own. Me personally, I believe that it was very idiotic of him to just leave.
Rhetorical Analysis of Jon Krakauer’s “Into the Wild ” Jon Krakauer ’s purpose in writing Into the Wild is to recount Chris McCandless’ journey, physical and metaphysical, from college in Georgia to his death in Alaska, through the use of factual, and anecdotal evidence. Krakauer uses factual evidence to establish that he is a trustworthy narrator capable of giving the reader a realistic scope on the events in the story. Jon uses anecdotal evidence to see into Chris’ psyche from the various perspectives found in the book’s excerpts, including how Jon understands the events.

The main character in the story is Christopher McCandless, he is a young man that loves being in the outdoors. Chris McCandless loves the outdoors so much he leaves his family and most of his possessions behind and began his journey to Alaska. The first timed writing assignment was to discuss the differences between the novel and the movie, Into the Wild, by John Krakauer. In retrospect, my essay would have been more effective if I clearly identified one element in detail about why the change in narrator impacted the story. The use of examples would have strengthened my argument and allowed me to stay on point with the prompt. I also think that a compare and contrast paragraph would have helped my essay. For example, comparisons could have been made between other written works and films.

Through his travels, Chris carried essays by Transcendentalist philosophers Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau, suggesting that McCandless is impacted by Transcendentalist ideals. Two key tenets of Transcendentalism that clearly influenced McCandless’ choices are the value of simplicity and the importance of self-reliance.
Into The Wild portrays a man who went on a fatal unforgettable journey through the alaska wilderness. Chris McCandless was a man with great courage and the ability to live on his own made him more of a hero going on his fatal journey. McCandlless travels to Alaska seeking the truth of life and that ultimately leads to his death. Krakauer has an extensive background on Chris, he finds himself relating to Chris more than Medred.
The Alaskan Bush is one of the hardest places to survive without any assistance, supplies, skills, and little food. Jon Krakauer explains in his biography, Into The Wild, how Christopher McCandless ventured into the Alaskan Bush and ultimately perished due to lack of preparation and hubris. McCandless was an intelligent young man who made a few mistakes but overall Krakauer believed that McCandless was not an ignorant adrenalin junkie who had no respect for the land. Filled with personal anecdotes and interviews, Severin’s Outside article takes a new approach Into the Wild commentary by directing attention to the lives McCandless’s story affected indirectly rather than critiquing on McCandless himself. In response to what appears to be a huge amount of troubled McCandless-inspired tramping stories, Saverin provides an unbiased rationale as a attempt to explain why so many are “willing to risk injury, and even death, to..visit the last home of Alaska’s most famous adventure casualty”. Saverin begins her article with anecdote- telling the unfortunate experience of young lovers and adept adventure seekers, Ackerman and Gros.
Based on a real story, Into the Wild can make us think from different perspectives about what the main character Christopher McCandless did. Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer is a dramatic but also remarkable story from a young, newly graduated, college student that escaped for a long wild journey but never came back. As time passes throughout the book, the reader may notice how the main character interacts with society and nature, finally McCandless dies in the wild but even though he was struggling for survival he died happy. Some people never get out of their comfort zone, others are tired of it and retire from their comfort zone to have different experiences in life, some are good enough or some are terrible.
