Through Thoreau’s entire essay, “Reading”, revolves around the idea of reading being the way to immortality. He calls for a new society, one that does not focus on the materialistic things in life, but instead on creating an intellectual human culture. Thoreau believes that neither property nor money are true inheritances, but that “books are the treasured wealth of the world and the fit inheritance of generations and nations.” (82). This passage demonstrates Thoreau’s idea of society’s way of aiming too low, instead of striving to read well.

Kathryn Stockett successfully uses rhetorical devices to get the reader to feel and understand the perspectives of the protagonists. Stockett uses pathos, ethos, and logos in her book, since the book about social injustice. The topics in the book range from inequality of the sexes to social classes and racism, Stockett is successful in getting the reader to reflect while reading the book and the themes of the book have a clear presence. We see Stockett use ethos and pathos in the very first chapters when we learn that Hilly doesn't like Minny and Minny doesn't want to say why at first, but the incident with Ms. Holbrook was affecting her chances of getting a job because of the influence Hilly has over this suburban society. In some instances where Stockett uses ethos, pathos is also included in her writing.

I am here tonight to announce my candidacy for the presidency and I would start off by expressing my gratitude for your support because let's face it, I wouldn’t be here without you and to be honest, I wasn't even going to run for the presidency but I live by a certain creed, one that runs in my blood and this being that you should never accept the world as it appears to be, always dare to see it for what it could be. But is natural for us to accept the illusions of hope. We opt to shut our eyes from the painful truth.
My second project was the rhetorical analysis which weighted 45% of my grade. For my second project, I have to pick a reliable and unreliable source that relates to Kennedy’s assassination conspiracy theories. I have to make 3 separate papers for a reliable source, unreliable source, and comparison of two sources that would be presented in class. This project was a great learning experience because I get to learn and identify the differences between reliable and unreliable sources. From this project, I really struggled with finding the right unreliable source because it was harder to find on the search results.
Many share the misconception that racism is a problem of the past. To them, prejudice has entirely ceased to exist, and today, humanity bears witness to a nondiscriminatory world. The flippant citing of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream,” perhaps even validates this new, egalitarian society emerging; however, such a society is merely an illusion. In fact, a minor offense as simple as citing “I Have a Dream” may not seem a big deal; however, many anthropologists contend that the telltale signs of institutionalized racism are present in these seemingly innocent actions. Furthermore, scholars Elizabeth Barnert and Terry Jones examine the state of institutionalized racism in their respective articles.
My perspective on life can be illustrated by the positions I played in soccer growing up - striker and goalie. As a striker, I lead the way and scored the goals. As a goalie, I kept the team in check and made the saves. I did both those things on the field, I strive to embody them off of it. by debating the effectiveness of flamethrowers in a Zombie apocalypse.

Past leaders such as Andrew Jackson, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Marc Antony are evidence that society does not reward morality and good character in leadership. Society is drawn to leaders that have good rhetoric, propaganda, and charismatic personalities, and society supports them despite their immorality. Society is concerned about stability more than the morality of their leaders and will support immoral leaders in times of crisis to provide stability. In history there have been multiple leaders that have used rhetoric, propaganda and charismatic personalities to gain power, despite their morals.
The Use of Rhetorical Devices in the “Google Home” Super Bowl Commercial Companies and other forms of media strategically use the three rhetorical appeals, ethos, pathos, and logos, to market goods and/or promote ideas. The appeals have been used for centuries are still prevalent in all types of modern day propaganda. If used correctly, ethos, pathos, and logos can be used as clever tactics to engrain information into the brains of consumers. One of the more notable ways that brands use these appeals are commercials. Google, the world’s most famous multinational technology company, used the three appeals to reach success.

While creating my rhetorical analysis paper I used all of my typical writing processes. I began this assignment by selecting a commercial that I thought would be the most appealing in the superbowl. After selecting my commercial I did some research at the library using EBSCOhost. I then created an outline on what my paper would be about and pieced all of its parts together. Using a multitude of allusions, puns and literary devices, rappers are capable of masterfully constructing stories and conveying a multitude feelings. Notable examples include tales such as “Stan” by Eminem which creates a fictional story of an obsessed fan and “Dance with the Devil” by Immortal Technique a story about a young black male’s life of crime. Unlike, other genres rap is able to embody multiple ideas and feelings and introduce them to a listener in a tasteful fashion. When writing a song about a novel it is important to make sure that it accurately portray the book. Does the song convey the story’s overall tone and mood?
