To study the variation and assessment of cultural practices in critically endangered S.lappa Saussurea lappa is well-known and important medicinal plant used in several medicinal systems for the treatment of various diseases, like inflammatory diseases, ulcer, asthma and stomach problems. This plant contains essential oils like saussurine, costunolide and lactones. Other pharmacological activity of this plant reported for its hepatoprotective, hypoglycemic, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antifungal effects. This critically endangered medicinal species is enlisted in Appendix I of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) and is among the 214 Himalayan endangered medicinal and aromatic herbs.
