that Mary is truly ‘Mother of God’.” (theotokos) (CCC 495) Mary is an extra-ordinary Mother as we see her maternal role in the life of Christ, the Word of God made flesh. She played an important role by giving birth to the Emmanuel. The one she gave birth to is truly God therefore, she is the Mother of God as we see in the verses of the bible. “Hail, favored one”, were the words the angel saluted Mary with when he came to announce to her the plan of God for the salvation of humanity. She would conceive and give birth to a child who will be God in human flesh and blood. She was highly favored because, of all women she was the only one given such a privilege of bringing forth the Son of God in the human flesh. The event only fulfilled what had been prophesied long ago that a virgin shall conceive and bear a son and shall call his name Emmanuel meaning “God is with us”. Even though he came through this process he was God, because the prophesy said that he is the Emmanuel, God with us. St. John clarifies this very well and shows logically that he is God when in his epistle he writes that “in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” And going further, he says that “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” This Word that …show more content…

I rather think that it’s a blasphemy to say that Mary is not a Mother of God. By saying that the person is maintaining that Jesus is not God. So with the citation from the gospel of John there is no doubt that Christ is God and that makes Mary the Mother of God. The prophesy of Isaiah said “…and He shall be called Immanuel meaning “God is with us.” The prophet could have said “the Son of God is with us”.
