Martin Luther King Jr. an American minister and activist once said, “In the end, we remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” Silence is the absence of noise. So, Martin Luther King Jr. is trying to say that we don’t remember the words of our enemies, but the absence of noise from our friends.A time at which we remember the silence of our friends instead of our enemies words in bullying. Victims of bullying suffer because of a power imbalance. The power imbalance could be broken if someone stood up for them. But in most cases, no one does. Therefore, this quote means that sometimes the most helpful or unselfish thing you can do is say no.For example, there might me a time where everyone around you is doing something dangerous, and you feel pressured to participate. In this situation you have to speak up and say no because it is in your best interest because most of the times silence is interpreted as agreeing. If you had said yes the outcome could be devastating. Speaking up for yourself and saying no even if its hard is the most unselfish thing you can do. Dambisa Moyo is saying no to African Aid, and she thinks that Africa should too. Aid to Africa has been going on for a long time and has used up millions even billions of dollars, but the aid still isn’t really helping. It’s not going to those who need it, and it is making the Africans too dependent on the Western Countries who are supplying the Aid. It would be better and more helpful if the countries and poor turned it away and begin to grow into self-sufficient places. Dambisa Moyo says that aid is also portraying the poor and corrupted parts on Africa, instead of the beautiful places the continent has to offer. On February 14th, 2018 there was a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas School in Parkland, Florida. Seventeen lives were lost that day; fourteen students and three adults. There has been a total of 306 school shooting since 2013. Emma Gonzalez, a survivor of the Parkland shooting, created the student - led gun control organization called “Never Again MSD” along with her peers, David Hogg and Cameron Kasky. The students are refusing to be side-lined, and they aren’t alone. All across America, students are fighting for a change. From walkouts to protests, teens are taking action against the National Rifle Association (NRA). At protests student hold up signs that say “Protect our Children” or “Fear has NO place in our schools.” They will not stand and watch as hundreds more are killed because the gun control laws are so limited. Students are speaking up about what they believe in. Even though they are getting backlash about how young and uneducated they are about guns, it isn’t stopping them.
