‘Social cohesion’ can be defined as the bond that keeps various groups in society working together in spite of their different backgrounds and cultures (Shires, “What Is Social Cohesion?”), in order for the country to stay afloat and prosper (Stanley 5). ‘Communal harmony’ refers to the peaceable relations and acceptance between people of different groups who are part of the same community (“Communal – Meaning, Definition, Usage of Communal.”).
Social cohesion and communal harmony are fundamental to build long-lasting peace and stability in a country. Without proper understanding of the cultures of our peers living among us, violence is more likely to stir up, leaving the country’s people suffering physical and psychological pain (Clark, “Peace and Stability”).

In 2015, the hate crimes against Muslims has risen to its highest since 9/11. The total number of hate crimes against all groups of people has risen from 5,479 to 5,850 from 2014 to 2015. There have been many reported attacks, including one at CSU, California State University, where two women wearing headscarves were attacked.
For example, Muslim people in Dublin are continually experiencing racist actions against them in Work, Education, and dealing with people in society. They experience racism from teachers, employers, the gardaí and the media. Some females even say they have been told they cannot wear their hijabs. Human beings needs to connect with other people in order to function naturally in the society. Communities can be found in different backgrounds, cultures and countries around the world. Institution, families, social clubs and group that shares common interest are part of a community. Communities have resources to support each other and provide essentials for individuals to be successful in the society. Having stronger sense of community benefits the contemporary society; community provides support from others, guidance and less isolation to the individuals in the society.

In this paper I will be analyzing how living in a stressful, violent, and poverty-ridden environment in combination with racial discrimination can allow residents of that community too develop a “code of the street”, a set of informal rules to abide by. The two theories I will be connecting this matter to, is the social learning theory and social disorganization theory. More often, these street codes and rules are created by young gang members who manage and “run” the neighbourhood and have an influence. Society is fooled into believing in the applied connection among people. Benedict Anderson’s idea of imagined communities emphasizes that, “… the members of even the smallest nation will never know most of their fellow-members, meet them, or even hear of them, yet in the minds of each lives the image of their communion” (5). Members of neighborhoods, cities, states, or countries feel a sense of unity with other members for living in the same place or maybe having the same basic values, but true unity comes from understanding the similarities among each other, considering the impact a person can have on another, and caring about lives. Hip hop is a global phenomena, with financial, cultural, and political power. Hip hop came from humble origin, and was formed during the Bronx during the 1970s. Elements of hip hop has existed for years, but the 1970s was when hip hop’s elements came together and create a concrete, tangible form of unique music and culture. Hip hop was a product of the cultural and vocal trends of this time, and the TV series The Get Down illustrates this.
In the Brave New World, a book written by Aldous Huxley,, he writes about a utopian future where humans are genetically created and pharmaceutically anthesized. Huxley introduces three ideals which become the world's state motto. The motto that is driven into their dystopian society is “Community, Identity and Stability.” These are qualities that are set to structure the Brave New World. Yet, happen to contradict themselves throughout the story.
As individuals, and in groups, we can change our communities. We can set up neighbourhoods and institutions in which people commit them self to working to form strong relationship bonds and alliances with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
