The Earth gets a lot of solar energy. The sun is known as a fusion reactor that has been burning for billion years. It gives us enough energy in a minute to give us energy for a year. In one day it gives more energy than will be used in 27 years. The amount of radiation hitting the earth in three days is the same amount stored in all fossil energy. Solar energy is a free resource that produces new ideas. The first use of solar power was to produce heat. A scientist Horace built the first thermal solar collector in 1767, which was later used to heat water and cook food. The first commercial patent for a solar water heater went to Clarence Kemp of the US in 1891. This system was bought by two California executives and installed in one-third of …show more content…
Solar energy is a good alternative to replace fossil fuel as the major energy source because solar power is renewable at absolutely no cost to supply energy infinitely. The world pollution is getting worse. Any effort that can reduce the pollution to the environment helps to save the earth. Solar panels can harness the energy from the sun and convert it to electricity. Therefore, the use of solar panels is environment friendly. Therefore, solar energy that is harmless to the environment will be the major energy source for future - starting today. Once you have installed the solar power system, it can last twenty to thirty years without major maintenance needed. You may need to do system check once a year, just to make sure everything is performing as it should. Since it requires very minimum maintenance cost, your cost should be minimal. All life on earth is supported by the sun. This amazing resource radiates energy and provides us both heat and light by fusing hydrogen into helium at its core. We call this solar radiation. Only about half of this solar radiation makes it to the Earth’s surface. The rest is either absorbed or reflected by clouds and the
Fortunately, red city has an efficient energy source: Venus. Since Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system, Red city has covered five million square miles of it with heat and sunlight absorbing pads. These generate enough energy every day to power all of red city for six months! Once a week, a few spaceships go to venus to collect all that energy and bring it all the way back to Red City, and about one-fourth of the energy is shipped to earth. Since so much energy is left over, most of it is stored for times of crises on earth and mars.
While it is proven that solar panels are tremendously helpful in terms of reducing the use of fossil fuels, it comes with a price. Solar panels are expensive; solar panels are expensive to make, install, and maintain. While solar panels do eventually break even in terms of cost, this takes years of operation to bring a profit. Studies have also shown that solar arrays have the potential to cause changes in temperature and precipitation by altering the amount of solar radiation absorbed by the earth (Harvey, 2015). The biggest problem with solar panels is the cost.
Then, ultimately, plants get their energy from the sun. This means that any energy that humans have come from the sun in one way or another. This is how Crosby got his name for the book Children of the Sun. The main point of this book is to explain the history of the prime movers and how they turned into new ways of obtaining energy. According to Crosby “ physicist have paired the concept[of prime movers] down to mean any machine (using that word broadly) that converts natural energy into work.
In 2017 we’re still destroying the planet by using fossil fuel, creating more carbon dioxide, by burning oil, coal and gas. This causes a huge problem in today's world if we keep using the process of burning fossils as a form of electricity, gas etc.. we will end up destroying the planet we live on. By Rhode Island College creating a 5-10 year plan I believe we can be completely running on energy created by solar panels.
The greenhouse gases in the atmosphere absorb some of this energy, while the rest is emitted back into space, as a naturally occurring cycle that repeats daily which is needed to keep the earth 's surface warm. The green house gases that humans are adding to the atmosphere are like the steroids of the climate system. The problem is that humans are producing far too much greenhouse gases due to increased human activities that demand the use of energy, which has led to emissions and an increase in greenhouse gases. An increase in these greenhouse gases in the atmosphere means more heat is trapped in the atmosphere, and less is emitted into space, which essentially warms up the average temperature of the earth. A small increase in temperature creates major effects to our environment, which is seen in the idea of climate change.
However some of that heat energy gets converted into infrared radiation and gets sent back to space. This is called the greenhouse effect because it resembles the way that a greenhouse works. We need the greenhouse gases because without them our planet would be too cold for plants to grow and without plants, there would be no oxygen for living organisms. But people are adding more greenhouse gases to our atmosphere. Whenever we drive our petrol cars, use electricity or manufacture a product in a factory, we use energy and a large portion of this energy comes from burning fossil fuels.
“A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself. Forests are the lungs of our land, purifying the air and giving fresh strength to our people.” Franklin D. Roosevelt once said these wise words to make awareness about protecting the environment. There are many ways we can help improve the environment, and solar energy is an incredibly useful resource. Today eighty percent of the energy comes from fossil fuels, and about one percent comes from solar panels.
Mathias Aarre Maehul, writer for Energy Information claims that wind power has opportunity to power 20 times more than the human race needs (Maehul). Maehul confirms wind power is created by the nuclear fusion process in the sun so there is no way for us to run out (Maehul). Maehul points out that 600 average United States homes can be power by a single large turbine (Maehul). Conserve Energy Future, Energy Conservation site notes that we can use solar energy as long as we have the sun (C.E.F.). Conserve Energy Future declares solar panels can be put on roof tops so that space is not an issue (C.E.F.).
The energy that comes from solar radiation, as well as heat transfer, create energy which in turn creates temperature. Chapter 3- Temperature : All The temperatures around the world occur because of many reasons.
Energy poverty is a huge issue in Haiti there is about 80% in energy poverty. They use kerosene to cook there food and heat their homes, and half of Haiti people have clean water source to drink or use for cooking. The GDP in Haiti is about $300-400 so they get $2-1 a day. If you help us raise the money we can help them get electricity to let them do daily stuff like cooking without kerosene. Than can help them save money too to get water or even to get some money to get health care because only 50% have it.
You may think that solar energy isn’t enough but we can use it with other clean energy. It is a wise choice to use solar energy because solar energy is renewable and abundant, it is environmentally friendly, and it is also available around the world. Solar is the most abundant energy resource on Earth. In Taiwan, a three-story building with solar panels can produce three to four families’ electricity.
Scientists have found that renewable energy is a path towards the future for a clean and safe environment. Throughout all the studies and findings, there is a continuing fret whether people should be able to use a traditional way of energy or renewable energy, solar power. Solar energy is seen to be effective since there has progressively been more places that are benefiting from solar usage; however there are also some who disagree. Solar energy sources are derived from natural sources and is implicated throughout our daily lives. From the lights in the streets to the computers we use at home.
wind energy and solar energy are both renewable types of energy they create no pollution and are fully sustainable as they are both powered by natural sources and if there is no wind one day the solar panels can generate energy and if it 's cloudy another day the windmills can generate energy also the energy created during the summer can be sold to the grid for extra capital that can be used for field trips, renovations, etc. Geothermal heating systems are rated the most efficient and eco-friendly heating systems. The system works using buried coils that contain a liquid, typically a mix of water and antifreeze. The liquid is warmed to the same temperature as the earth and then runs through to the home where a compressor extracts the heat but not only that geothermal heating requires no fossil fuels so it is very eco-friendly LED lighting is an efficient and eco friendly lighting alternative because they waste much less energy in converting to light compare to incandescent lights which waste 90% of the energy to convert to heat not only that LED lights last up to 15-25 times longer that traditional light bulbs this makes LED a much better source of lights than others because it wastes less energy and it is more efficient at doing its job this is so much better for the environment because it uses less energy that other lighting sources
2.1 INTRODUCTION Non-Renewable Resources are resources that have the potential to be used up due to consumption or overuse, they have production, development or replenishment rate that cannot match up with the depletion rate. In short these are resources that can be finished, output exceeds input, and they are infinite. Non-Renewable resources vary from non-renewable fossil fuels like coal, natural gas and oil, non-renewable alternative energy sources like nuclear energy and deep-earth geo-thermal energy, soil, and minerals (Botkin & Keller, 2012). These non-renewable resources range from a few years, up to thousands of years to replenish. The local as well as global challenge, is that most non-renewable resources are directly exploited by humans and their existence is widely threatened were usage
Renewable energy is generally defined as energy that comes from resources which are naturally replenished on a human timescale such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat. It is the energy which is abundant in nature. The sun is the ultimate source of energy. Almost all the energy that we use eventually comes from the Sun. The exception is the heat of radioactivity deep inside the Earth, which is ultimately responsible for processes taking place inside the Earth.
