As a teen I had to deal with boys not being attracted to me because I was of the darker complexation. In the end dress codes end up doing quite the opposite. In schools, dress codes cause sexism in schools, they make schools place this code over everything else, the aftermath of dress codes are negative, and they also cause a lack of creative freedom. In both books the main characters meet someone who changes their lives for the better. In both Anthem and Fahrenheit 451 it is considered a sin to be too curious or too knowledgeable. In Anthem Equality 7-2521 is punished by his teachers for being too smart and for being curious about the things that he learns in his classes. He is even punished for being quicker at learning than the other students and for asking questions in class. Equality 7-2521 wishes he was not the way he was and wants to be more like some of his classmates who are not as smart and curious as he is.
As described above, film greatly influences society views.Vrasidas highlights that people learn to believe discrimination is ok and that stereotypes are accurate when seen in a film. As a result, students end up having to rely on their parents without receiving proper education on culture in school, which hasn’t been shown to work all of the time. This not only affects our way of viewing them, but it also impacts those individuals being stereotyped. All this stereotyping can cause one to believe that they are nothing but the stereotypes that the media has set for them—destroying the formation of their self-concept. Though it may not seem obvious, the school shows a distinct lack of care for its pupils, they have introduced new systems of learning, people who are not acquainted with the area are chosen to teach there, causing different, more obvious problems with the students. Learning can also be associated with a loss of innocence because ignorance and innocence go hand in hand: the less you know, the less likely you are to try something because you don’t even know of the certain thing, and you know things that make you less innocent in the first place. All in all, the story is based around racism and the Great depression and other such themes. The school represents many of these things, innocence, racism and depression. On the opposite side of the same coin, it could also represent many good things about this period of time, but it exuded these characteristics the most.

I have chosen to do this reading response of Lee’s piece about model minorities. This chapter focuses on stereotyping of Asian American students and the affects that that has. This piece starts off by discussing how there are two main stereotypes of Asian Americans and those are: being the foreigner and the model minority. Next, the piece discusses how Asian Americans are not seen as authentic, which has resulted in modifications to try and achieve the “American” standard of beauty. I believe that the central argument of this piece is showing that stereotyping Asian americans is detrimental to their education and their identity.
It becomes next to impossible to strive to be better when the youth are constantly told they are worthless by people of higher authority and even their own peers. In the novel, Dr. Rios describes a concept He calls “dummy smart”. During his study he noted that there were multiple youth who were doing very well in school, but were labeled as being deviant and dumb by school officials. They purposely acted as if they were uninterested in school, but when called upon they always knew the answer, which shows they are more willing to gain respect from people of higher authority in a more negative way. Finally, standardized test are unfair to teachers, who are the ones teaching our children the “knowledge” they need to know as an adult. First up, standardized tests are very imprecise on the way they evaluate teachers and their way of teaching. According to a report by the Annenberg for School Reform, over 17% of teachers on Houston, Texas were ranked in the top category on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills test, and yet they were ranked in the two lowest categories for Stanford Achievement Test(30). Next, this very disappointing because using the tests to reward and punish teachers causes them to cheat for their own benefit. This impacts our children 's education negatively.
