The Hispanic community is a worldwide growing population, so my interest was to research and learn more about their health disparities; in an effort to inform other people about what’s happening now. Once I did the research to determine what my health and other disparities would be in a certain community I was amazed at the results. Hispanics are a susceptible minority group at a higher risk for diabetes because of lack of resources and proper health care. Today, Hispanics and Latinos are facing a dominant health challenge against diabetes mellitus which we need to get under control. Health studies done on a population of individual’s shows Hispanics to be unfairly affected by diabetes and bad glycemic control; compared to non-Hispanic whites
Puerto Rican Culture Religion, culture, beliefs, and ethnic customs can influence how patients understand health concepts, how they take care of their health, and how they make decisions related to their health (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, 2015). As a nurse, it is important to understand that not every patient shares the same healthcare beliefs. A nurse must be able to perform his or her duties without judgement and care for each patient with respect for their own unique set of beliefs and morals. In this paper, the Puerto Rican culture will be discussed, from family units to religious and cultural beliefs, as well as how Western Medicine fits into their healthcare. Explain the culture.
The statue was a symbol of hope and freedom to them because they knew better opportunities were awaiting there. However, immigrants were faced with several challenges when they arrived. For instance, immigrants went through a screening process and not all immigrants could stay. If the doctor diagnosed them with a contagious disease they were forced to leave. Although, most immigrants could stay.
Most Latin American (Latino) immigrants to the United States participate in the dominant health care system. [...] Oftentimes, while utilizing this health care system, they continue to use their own culturally appropriate health care practices [...] In curanderismo, santería, and espiritismo, the practitioners assess the patient and, depending on diagnosis, prepares a healing remedy or a variety of healing remedies. A remedy is any combination of medicinal herbs, religious amulets, and/or other products used for the prevention, treatment, or palliation of folk and somatic illnesses. It is usually administered by the practitioner and may involve several sessions. In other cases, a curandero, espiritista, or santero will provide his/her client
Increasingly more Hispanic patients are coming to our facility for their healthcare and birthing experiences. Initially, it was disturbing for staff to deal with the many family members who come to the hospital when a woman is approaching delivery. In studying the Hispanic culture, and their emphasis on the importance of family, it is understandable why so many people attend and we are learning to accommodate and grant their wishes when medically

There are many different cultures in the world and how they approach medical needs may not all be the same. As a Vietnamese American I know both ways how American people and Vietnamese people approach for healthcare. Most American when we are sick we go to the doctors and they diagnose us with whatever and give us a prescription for medication or would refer us out to a specialist that would be able to help us. While Asians or better yet Vietnamese when we get sick we sometimes do not just go to the doctors we try herbal medications at home on our own and on what knowledge we know and from our friends and families. Also we believe in that acupuncture can help us from a lot of different things it can help with trembling, aches and such.
One of the most common arguments in the United States today is the healthcare reform. The unique aspect of this argument is that everyone acknowledged that reform was needed, but as to what that alteration should be was the argumentative part of the reform. The goal of this reform is to help people who primarily need health care coverage and eliminate the preexisting conditions by insurance companies. In the past, many of the insurance companies denied coverage for patients with condition as such as cardiac diseases and many more because they consider it as a pre-existing condition. Passing this health care reform bill will help people in the low income and working class who could not afford health care insurance.

The uneven distribution of health care workers in the surrounding communities will be addressed by providing incentives to the workers in wealthier districts who are willing to be relocated to work in the poor areas. The need for more attention to behavioral health in the community can be attended to by establishing mandatory screenings at primary care visits which will test for various mental health issues. The problem of bed shortages for patients in the hospitals can be solved by partnering up with other outpatient facilities to take on patients who are required to stay for more than one day in the hospital. We will also try to recover from the exclusion of the SHR health care plan for state employees in Arizona, in 2008, by lowering the costs of SHR’s plan in relation to the other two competing
