Technology refers to the use of tools, machines, materials, techniques and sources of power to make work easier and more productive. Apparently, people nowadays cannot live without science technology. There is nothing to puzzle or amaze if the people around the world have a mobile phone. Almost everything around us is the outcome or the wonderful result of technology. Development is closely related with technology. The radical change and advancement in economy, as we observe today, is the result of the modern technology. It is undeniable that technology has brought a lot of benefits to the world and improved the quality of human living. However, alas, every rose has its thorns. People’s dependence on technology has affected creativity and communication. Firstly, we can just search anything within a click through internet. We can easily get any kind of information from the internet no matter what. In old days, when the technology is limited or even none, people …show more content…
Face-to-face communication is replaced by Facebook, WhatsApp, Skype and many other social media application. The overuse of modern gadget also lead to addiction that our eyes always glue to the screen of the smartphone and neglect the things happened around us. It is sad that most of the families nowadays always sit around the table and just ‘communicate’ with their mobile phone when waiting for the food in a restaurant. The communication between family members obviously become less and less. And yet, this bizarre behaviour seems to be implied that we prefer to communicate to someone who stay far from us via smartphones more than communicate with someone who just sit in front or beside us. Then, have you ever thought about, what is the main point to have a family gathering or a friend gathering? Are we just physically gathered around
Since then, the computer systems have been upgraded so the information can be compiled and is more readily available (Leung,
This chapter of Reclaiming Conversation by Sherry Turkle essentially focused on the effect technology can have on the bond of a family. The writer depicts different families to prove how social media has creates a false sense of closeness in family relations, when in reality it drives us further apart. As explained in the section named “Left to their own devices”, a teenager named Alli finds herself in a situation most families are currently in. Alli is not able to rely on her family for emotional support and instead seeks comfort from thousands of strangers online. This is a common situation in which teenagers feel more comfortable going out of their way on social media to obtain advice from strangers, instead of having a conversation with
This document belongs to the information period of United States history. This period was important to the U.S, because it was the beginning toward people from various parts of the world being able to keep connected with one another. This period in history bought the computer the internet. The internet is what enabled not only different people to stay connected with one another but it also enabled research to be done quicker.
Technology definitely is affecting how humans communicate and interact, but that does necessarily have to be a negative thing. For instance, the popular social media application Skype, has kept over 74 million people from around the globe connected with one another. Despite humans spending much more time with their devices, like in “The Pedestrian”, many are not using this time to mindlessly stare at the television. Skype is just one example that connects people who may be a long distance apart, but will still spend an average of 100 minutes a month (“Skype Company Statistics”) still keeping in touch with one another. While some do use their their screens to block out the people around them, a majority use their smart phones and computers to keep connected with their
We can talk to the person sitting at any corner of the world. Smartphones have dramatically changed the way we communicate today. But, what about the face to face communication? Are we paying close enough attention to the people around us? People these days are so attached to their cell phones that they don’t realize what is going on around them.
Jenna Wortham challenges negative views of digital communication by arguing “In my experience, however, I’ve found the opposite to be true, especially as more and more of my daily interactions with friends, colleagues and family happen through a screen. If anything, the pervasiveness of technology in my life has heightened my desire for actual one-on-one meetings” (396). Wortham is describing how texting has enhanced her relationships with others. This is because it makes it far easier for her to make plans and communicate with her friends and family when she isn’t with them. Texting is almost like a tease to actually being together, in her eyes it makes her want to talk to and spend time with someone even more.
Individuals have been so used to texting and sending pictures to others that they are starting to take this into the way that they live. It almost seems as if people are no longer capable of speaking to one another and holding actual conversations. A scholarly article states, “I can't tell you how many times I’ve wondered what someone meant by their words- whether on social media, in a text or over email. Unless you see the person’s face, hear their voice and understand the environment, you have no idea the context surrounding the written words”(citation). Technology blurs things for people on the outside looking in.
Sometimes people use television to forget about a hard time at work, others using phones in public, causing lack of communication with people nearby. “Little by little, technology has become an integral part of the way that people communicate with one another and has increasingly taken the place of face-to-face communication. Due to the rapid expansion of technology, many individuals fear that people may be too immersed in this digital world and not present enough in the real world,”. People, especially in the United States, spend so much time on the internet they get separated from their real life and don't know what’s going on around them. Not only does Technology take away from everyone's real life, but it also distances people from family and friends.
Technology can be defined as “the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment”. (n.d.) Therefore, when we speak of technological evolution we can say that it is an “innovation and technology related hypothesis that describes the fundamental change of society through technical development”. Different theorists have their own perspective on the evolution of technology but, although each of their views differs from another, they shared certain common features, mechanism, and incidence in technology. Some theorists have developed distinct approaches to understanding the nature of the technological process and the relationship between technological development and the social world.
In an age in which we are surrounded by information, it’s no wonder that we congregate around our newly found idols such as cell phones, televisions and computers, that provide us with unlimited information. We’ve become addicted and the worst part is that we aren’t even aware of it. IT and communication technologies are used to create and maintain virtual spaces that are not constrained by the physical limitations of being confined to a particular place. It does not seem strange now when friends are together in a room busily texting away.
Nowadays, technology devices become plays an important role in our daily lives, especially in adolescents’ categories. While there is a very clear argument for how the technology is effected on us and causing social isolation as we know, but in another way is also the argument that these technologies are helping us to become more social in our society. This is very probably because we have a good and perfect ability to communicate with each other. Despite long distances. We all know that the goal of technology is to make our lives easier and more efficient.
According to Lindsey Craig in her article “Technology -- we all love it and we all use it, but how is it affecting us?” she stated that “Technology is making us more alone, because instead of interacting with our friends in person, we are dependent on using our phones or tablets. We start to compare
Not only that, technology has shaped social interaction as a whole. Being able to talk to anyone on the Earth is an important milestone and “One of the areas where computers have had the most impact on our lives is how we relate to and communicate with other people” (Stewart). In a world filled with Skype, social media, and email, no longer do people have to leave their house in order to communicate. In fact, according to a study led by John Cacioppo of the University of Chicago 's Department of Psychology, roughly one-third of romantic relations start by meeting online. This goes to show how huge of an impact technology has had on communication.

This is all about the people dependence on technology can affect creativity and communication. If the people just always put their hope on the technology, we will get more lazier and this can give bad effects for our life. There are many effect if the people’s dependence on technology especially on human’s creativity and communication.
