Canada has a little piece of almost every culture in the world, shown through the large amount of people moving to Canada from every continent in the world. The multitude of cultures is displayed through the plethora of festivals held throughout the country every year, such as the Folk Fest, Edmonton Food Festival, Heritage Festival and the International Film Festival, all bringing in various cultures and traditions from around the world. Canada has all of these festivals due to the large amount of immigration that was even shown in Anita Rau Badami’s essay my Canada, when she and her husband had moved from India to Vancouver. Canada is one if not the most desirable countries to immigrate to, not only for the living conditions but because of the ability to keep your culture and not have to assimilate to a “Canadian” culture. As aging young adults we start to daydream about moving out of our parents’ house. We want our own place with complete freedom and not having to hear the phrase “My house, my rules” to our faces ever again. Moving out is a big part of a young adult’s life, but moving to a completely different country is scarier than just moving across the city. The worries of being far away from loved ones and struggling to find a job can become daunting. Our northern neighbor, Canada, seems like the best place to choose since it is within the same continent, but still contains foreign influences.

Think about it, we have a hot and cold climate that a lot of other nations have. Our landscape is beautiful but is something seen everywhere because believe it or not, mountains, forests and lakes are quite common. Our food is very limited in variety, uniqueness and taste.
