Can a single decision change the entirety of your life from there on? “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost gives one opinion on the subject. Frost, born in 1874, saw and was inspired by the rural landscapes of New England, which is even referenced within the first lines of this poem. The poem depicted literally tells a story of a person as they make their way through the wilderness, deciding to follow one path or another and where this path takes them. Although the deeper figurative meaning of the poem is about making choices and the effect of them later in life. The poem “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost is about making choices and illustrates that every decision affects who you will be. This writing skill is immediately applied in the first lines. “ Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, / And sorry I could not travel both / And be one traveler, long I stood”(Line 1,2,3). A man stands at a crossroad within the New England forests in autumn, pondering whether which of the two paths should be followed. Similar imagery is continued throughout the poem, telling the story of a man making decisions and where they lead him. The events that this person experiences can be related to a multitude of other situations, for instance the two paths are options that one could take in life such as going to college or obtaining a job without getting a degree.
