In February 2012 a racial war began. This war was fueled by the bias in the coverage from news broadcasters. This war brought grief, destruction, and unbalance in society. The shooting of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman created unrest in the nation mainly because of the coverage by different popular news broadcasters. This tragedy stretched far beyond a shooting, but became a racial matter. Is top news broadcasters FOX and CNN news to blame for this? FOX News is known for their conservative views on headline news rather than the liberal views CNN is known for. CNN and FOX News coverage of the Trayvon Martin case differed drastically. While there are always two sides to a story, both sides are not always told. CNN and FOX news are both at fault for this. CNN and FOX news exhibit bias by omission in their coverage of the Trayvon Martin case (Types). Both news groups neglected to cover both the liberal and conservative side. CNN took the stance that Trayvon was just a child, and Zimmerman was a criminal that attacked him. CNN took an emotional perspective on this case rather than looking at factual evidence. They left out information that FOX news provided like Trayvon’s immoral habits, and Zimmerman’s defense. FOX news is equally as guilty of using bias by omission in their stories. Instead, FOX news wanted its audience to see Trayvon as a “thug” and Zimmerman as a nice societal member helping out his community. Although both news groups had truth in their stories, they did not tell the whole truth. The reason for this is to manipulate their audiences mind to see their side of the story, and reject either the liberal/conservative side.
