Tourism worldwide has started growing with a considerable pace. Every country has something special to offer in terms of its scenic beauty, exotic hills, beaches, old civilizations and culture and traditions. Consumers are now demanding something new to experience. There is a paradigm shift in consumer behaviour. Tourists are now travelling countryside to experience the tea culture and experience. They are no more going in for urban holidays but instead exploring these tea gardens. From the tourism’s perspective many schemes and plans have been initiated to supplement the growth of the local people.
Tea tourism can be labelled as a link between the tourists and the population of the host community, promoting the role of tea and its consumption as an instrument in the hospitality, component and dedicated focus of tourism experiences and attractions .

It is less costly to develop such programs in these regions. Additionally, tea tourism works well with existing enterprises such as tea estates and can generate important secondary income for tea estate households. There are many places where Tea tourism has been successful. Some of them are China, Srilanka and Nepal. People nowadays are becoming aware of the need to conserve their culture for the future. Many tea tourism projects set up all over are also trying to safeguard their culture.
Some problems related to Tea Tourism are :
• It is exacerbating social divisions on the plantations.
• A major problem faced by tourists and people are connectivity by roads and infrastructure.
• It is a relaxation and home stay type of tourism but not fully professionalized although professionalism has started in few tea estates.
• It is relatively mostly expensive.
• The psychological factor and mentality of Indians towards the Tea estates and Tea tourism concepts are not clear.

The environment in India was also good for tea production and tea bushes were found in India. This resulted in the rise of India’s tea industry. Today, India is the world’s leading producer of tea. Although the drink did not reach Europe until the early sixteenth century and was available a little earlier than coffee, it was not very popular due to its high cost compared to coffee. Eventually the price of tea dropped drastically and tea consumption started to rise in Europe. Soon after the first tea gardens began to emerge. Tea Gardens were similar to coffeehouses in the fact that they provided a space for social gatherings, but unlike coffeehouses, tea gardens were regarded as places to meet people of the opposite sex instead of places to gossip and spread news. Women also took a large liking to tea houses because only men were allowed in coffeehouses and tea gardens provided a great place for them to socialize.
