Jones has created several hit records with many famous musicians. In addition to his music career, he was also a spokesperson for the Civil Rights Movement. Quincy Jones is an important part to music history and during Black History Month because of the great work he did in his career through music and all he accomplished. Quincy Jones was born on March 14, 1933, in Chicago Illinois. Jones’s parents are Quincy Jones Sr. and Sarah Jones. Jones had 5 siblings Richard, Jeanette, Waymond, Margie, and Lloyd. Later in his early life, Jones moved to Bremerton, Washington where he studied the trumpet and worked with Ray Charles. In particular, Jones is very famous for producing the album Thriller with Michael Jackson “Jones produced Jackson's all-time best-selling album Thriller” (Biography.com Editors). He is also renowned for working with Frank Sinatra, Lionel Hampton, and so many more. Above all, he made a big impact on society through the making of the album Thriller which sold 70 million copies. Important events Jones was involved in were making Thriller, and being involved in the Civil Rights Movement by supporting Martin Luther King. Notably by doing all of this, why would Jones be important to Black History Month? It is a very easy question to answer and it is because of the huge impact he put on the world of music and what he did in The Civil Rights Movement, “I never cared about money or fame, and I don't care now.” This just goes to show he didn’t care about the money he made, just the music he made.
