Can you believe that, around 20,000 Haitians were killed in the Dominican Republic under a dictator’s, order? Rafael Leonidas Trujillo Molina, also had an unknown number of Dominicans and people who were against him, killed during his 31-year reign. The fact that this number is unknown makes it seem like it is a large significant amount of people. He dictated from 1930 to 1938 and then again from 1942 to 1952. The times in between, he had someone dictate the country under his orders. In 1952 his brother, Hector Bienvenido Trujillo Molina, acted as Rafael’s puppet. He still had complete power over the country some way or another. He continued to rule by force until his death. Before he became a dictator, he had someone rewrite his family history. His true background remains unknown. This could be the psychological reason why Rafael was the person he was. At the age of 16, Trujillo was a part of a gang and he committed many crimes such as, stealing, and counterfeit checks. He was then arrested for several months for these crimes. After spending time in prison he formed a violent gang of robbers called the 42. If we look at America today, a man who has committed all these crimes will never be able to be president. There is no possible way that people would be able to trust someone like this. That is when a background check is processed. An in-depth background check will determine everything the country has to know about an individual.
